I currently am running 40-10 h/c's in my 02 viper, and love the setup...it works great......but my curiosity has led me to want to try a polaris weight with the pin conversion kit.... Just wondering if anybody has tried this setup and what your results were.....really the only experience i have with this is a buddy ran them in his mm 700 and the thing was a rocket ship....he was running the h/c's and gained about 2-4 sled lengths going to the polaris weights.... i realize there is some modifications that need to be made to the polaris arm for clearance issues etc....but i think i could make a killer setup with a little time and tuning.

Just install a Polaris Primary. You can get it custom setup for you and your type of riding by Tom Hartman @ HartmanINC.
I got one just installed in December for my 2004 MNT Viper. A few of my buddies are running Polaris Primarys on their modded MM700's
Hope this helps.

Been der dun dat. You have way more room to tune rpm,s with an adjustable weight. With a fixed mass weight your limited to tuning options & your gonna need a box of helix,s & springs. With a multi-adjustable primary weight you can tune around the secondary set up.

Think about what your buddy's results were.............
While it's true some of the adjustable weights may outperform the P weights at a given point "if you know what to do with them". The P weights for the average guy seem to be a very good all around choice.

i do this to all my yamies straight line performance has a kit (PIN kit) its thirty bucks ive tried heel clickers they do not work as good use cat weights a54 take half a gram off the toe or ir will hang up on clutch engagment drops to about 3200 run a variable rear helix ive down 4 vipers and there outrunning f7 my sx exciter works great that way and my sx 700

powder- it seems foolish to change to a p-85 when i can go to the polaris weights for the cost of the pin kit....~$30, and have the weights laying around for free.
turk i am curious as to why you think i would need a box of helix's and springs? what you're saying is that i should leave the weight alone and tune the rpm's with the secondary???that makes no sense..why would i tune around the secondary???... it is possible and very effective to use a p weight with the slp pin kit like ted says, suprisingly, what you must not understand turk is that you can adjust your rpm with a fixed weight by removing mass untill your target rpm is met.....
ted i am glad to hear you have had good results and i believe i am going to try them out..have you used the polaris profile and believe the a54 is a better profile?..
im thinking im gonna start with 60g p weight trim it so it clears, h/c red spring with 48/42 and green @60 to start and remove weight if needed....anybody got any other ideas??![Letitsnow :letitsnow :letitsnow](https://totallyamaha.net/images/smilies/letitsnow.gif)

Turk is telling you if you use the NON tunable weights like the ones you mention you need assorted helixes and possably spings to fine tune to the correct RPM.
The best way to tune for your target RPM is using the primary and with fixed weights you can not tune. If you go to other wieghts I will take those terrible HC's off your hands as a favor to you...lol

look guys lets not get into an argrement over this what works for me might not work for somone else it all depends on the amount of knowledge you have turk iam sure nows what he talking about some people get the same end result just another way so lets have fun and enjoy each others company

i was not attacking turk or anyone else for that matter, and obviously turk is no fool. but what i am saying is that you can shave weight off a "fixed mass" to gain rpm. some are implying that a fixed weight cannot be changed, when in all reality removing a little material will make the proper gain if needed without needing a box of helix's or springs.

i agree put in what you said then you have a starting point to work with the problem i found with a yami weight in the profile i couldent it them to do what i wanted so maybe iam the dum dum. but with cat weights i gained alot. when i was runnig mt sx exciter my buddy has a formula 583 he could fleeze me and every 670 for that matter so i went to work with the pin kit and a variable cam i gained 6 to ten lenghs much better so ive set up some vipers that way and my sx 700 with great succes each to his own

wow...can you smell the testostarone in this post. You are 100% correct when you say to each his own. For mer personaly I would not want to tinker with a fixed weight and have to shave mass. I am just not there with clutching. I find an 8DN 10 or 20 weight has a smooth profile and with a gram scale and an assortment of nuts, bolts and washers is really easy for me to tweek and fine tune to my target RPM. When I said you can not tune a fixed weight, I should have said it is not as easy to tune.

Bolin, I'm in Lake Villa, there's another guy from roscoe coming here i the am for me to straighten out his Viper. You're about an hour away.
Stock Vipers usually run 52-53.5g , depending on what else you have behind it.
As far as whats "best"? Best is whatever works best for you, and whatever your used to.
That whole theoretical "you need a straight helix or your primary is wrong" thing is "theoretically true", but unpractical in the real world, or you've neen talking to Dwayne too much. Whoever the guy at Yamaha is that can take a dyno sheet, plot a power curve and then convert that to the shape of a flyweight, and the guy at Ski Doo that can do the same on a TRA ramp. Those guys are the Guru's. Not us, but you know what, even those guys are using multi angle helixes in the last couple years.

Possible solution
If you want to try a polaris profile I have a set of heavy hitters I would sell you for $125 shipped. Includes weights, all tuning bolts & washers and a primary spring. This way you can have the profile you are looking for and the tunability. I may have a helix available too depending on what you are looking for. Let me know if you are interested.
