Ok I have had my viper-s and it has been a real nice sled, infact I decided to keep it and added a nytro rtx 40th. Very nice pair for us. (Viper her's Nytro is perfect for me) well last year while i was riding the viper it seemed to loose traction or something. I replaced the belt but still seemed like when i grab a handful of throttle it acts like the track spins but it doesn't spin
motor just rev's up fast. WHat is up with this? I am not just some dumb a** I know my sled very well but do lack knowledge of clutches I am guessing this is what my problem is any other ideas or suggestions?

Will the track spin at all?

Look at your primary do you see any black rubber on it from the belt
slipping?
clutches all check out, any wore out/binding parts?

sled has about 4000 miles (fairly hard but maintained well) clutches have never been touched. I need some more knowledge of the clutches before I tear in to one but I thought I would ask the experts for suggestion before I start my quest.
Remove you belt
Take the primary clutch cover off and inspect the spring. There are 6 10MM bolts. Check to see if you have a sacked primary spring. Next, slidde the outer clutch sheave towards the outside so you can inspect your rollers and flyweights for any flat spots. Replace any damaged parts you find. Make sure no oil or grease is on the belt or clutch faces.

Check this out! the front left motor mount was broken (bolts broken off) so the motor under torque would rotate up taking tension off of the belt allowing belt to slip. Between that and a worn track bad comdination. It is alot better just need a track now. Had a ripsaw 1.25 I am considering converting to a 136 but love the way the sled handles the way it is now. Any suggestions for a track other than a ripsaw. It has to be better than a ripsaw before I would put it on!
Replace with a SRX mount (3 bolts instead of 2) and add a Yamaha OEM SRX Engine Tensioner. This is not very expensive, and will make the motor stay where it belongs once you set clutch alignment. Be sure to check the other mounts. Grab the engine and twist and pull it to see if it can move at all.
Holy crap, where did you come from???Ding said:Replace with a SRX mount (3 bolts instead of 2) and add a Yamaha OEM SRX Engine Tensioner.
