OK guys, I'm thinking of putting an EDGE skid in my SRX, besides the skid and some time, how difficult is it really? Also, what else would I need for parts? I would like to hear from some people who have done it before. Some tips on installation would be cool as well. I don't have a skid as of yet, but I have a couple buddies who work at the Polaris dealer in town, so getting a skid wouldn't be too hard.

I would go with something for more $$$, but I don't have the $$$ right now and as for the way I ride, I think an EDGE skid would do just fine. I don't jump or anything, I just want something that rides a bit nicer with more travel. I figure this would be a relatively inexpensive way to do it.

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info, did some looking around, looks like the measurements can be fudged around a little for clearance and such, 1/4" here or there. It seems to me that the main one is the front mounting holes, getting them in an accessible spot. As long as the distance between the holes remains the 24 1/8" I think a person would be OK. As long as the end results in the skid being square to the machine.

Do a search of my name and you see my post and pics. It really wasn't that hard to do. If all goes smooth you could get it done in about 4-5 hours. Best thing I have done to my srx!!! It's now a lot more fun to drive.

Awesome skid, its not real hard to install, measurements in a SRX have been posted by johnnysrx, just measure 3 times drill and bolt her in. I needed some 3/16" plate up front and 1/4" in the back to make the spacing work other then that it was easy peasy and I had never even removed a skid before I attempted the install.

One more thing, do I need to rivet in a new mounting plate where the skid bolts to, either in front or in back? It seems the stock rear one can be used with a new hole drilled in it, is this correct? What about the front one, do I need to take it out, and relocate it?

Thanks guys.

How are the IQ suspensions. I can get one with walker evans clickers cheap, just need rail ext. Maxdlx

the rear can be used however the front i used a 1/16th peice of stainless and riveted it in with stainless on stainless rivets and it worked great

Roost 'Er,
How large of a piece did you use? Would a 3"x3" piece be large enough, provided that I get the hole in the middle? How many rivets did you put in each piece?

Thanks for the help!

i think it was closer to 4x6" to tell ya the truth and we used 8 stainless rivets per side with a air rivet gun (Really worth the money to get for this project).... i also used 16 guage stainless to make the plate out of and it worked awesome...

You mounted the plate on the outside of the tunnel, am I correct in assuming that? Also, did you remove the factory mounting plate, or did you leave it be?

Thanks for the help Roost.

nah i mounted it in the inside, i also left the stock one on it.... you also will need something to offset the shafts as they are slightly too narrow i used a 1/4" thick washer on one side and it worked out perfect... dont be afraid to ask any questions

OK I got ya, put the plates on the inside, rivet from outside. This may be my last ? for ya, on the jbshocks measurements page, this may be a stupid ? but, you go back from the jackshaft approx 9", then from that point, you go back another 24 1/8"? It isn't 24 1/8" from jackshaft to rear hole, correct? I'm sure when I do this it will be self-explanatory, but I just want to have a real good idea of everything when I do this. It will make the install go much smoother.

Thanks for all the help Roost. (everyone else too)

yeah its from the first hole, that is the most important measurement as it is the only one that is from the actual shaft itself.... so double and triple check that then the others are from that hole and the top of the tunnel for the depths....

Dont forget to add 1/4" to the distance from the shaft to the front hole ( location purposes).....

I'd skip the walker evans shocks, heard too many stories about them constantly blowing/needing rebuilds. Stick to Fox or RydeFX. Some people actually prefer the pre-edge suspensions (Gen II) but it's all personal taste. XCSP or Edge suspensions would be a huge upgrade either way IMO, whatever you can get for less $$$.

Will work for a viper just the same as an srx. It was the best mod i have done to my srx! Rides much better and should hold up better too i hope.

LOL Yeah, I'm not in a great big hurry to do it, in the next month or so, or a summer project for sure. When I do it, I want to have everything there so I don't waste all of you guys time asking all these questions. LOL

Oh well, no riding here for a bit anyways, been in the 40's and raining the last few days. The 2' of snow we had is now about 6". On the bright side, they are calling for cold temps (teens to 20's) and possibly some more snow later this week and weekend.
