98 Vmax XT
New member
I have a '98 Vmax XT that I have put SRX skis on (original skis were steel with platic skins and the SRX skis are from a 2000 so they are 100% plastic and much more agressive). I'm having darting problems with it and the back of the machine seems to want to pass the front (fishtailing). We have loosened off the limiter stap as much as possible, added ski shims and have reduce the spring load on the front skis - I was thinking it had too much ski pressure. Any suggestions - maybe ski pressure isn't the problem. Sled has 98 studs along the centre of the track and it is stock otherwise.
Any help would be much appreciated!!!

what ski bumpers are you running?
the ones off the srx, or the ones the XT?

Not sure what you mean by ski bumpers. Carbides are off the SRX which fit the ski (4" of carbide) and the rubber ski saddels that go inbetween the ski and the ski post are off the XT.
I have a 98 700 sx with the same skiis. Yes they are a lot more aggressive and this you will get more darting. Have you checked your ski alignment? I regularly check mine with a long straight edge running up along the edge of the track. Measure to each ski, (carbide if you want to get picky). You should always have a little "toe out" on your stance. Also try raising the front of your machine off the ground and check for slop in your radius rod bushings where they attach to the trailing arms. Depending on your milage or how hard you ride these could need replacing.

you should get bumpers ( rubber saddles) from the srx.
When I got the srx skis for the venture that had the same skis as your xt, i made sure to get the bumpers as well from the srx. they supposedly are essentially pre shimmed how they should be.
I have yet to install them though, so I am going off of what I was told on this site.
