Got the old SRX back out today for some runs,I know the weather has been warm,-2 C today and a lack of snow makes for a lousy day to even ride. From the high winds we had a couple of nighyts ago, every thing has drifts and bumps now. There really is no good flat areas left to open it up.Only can push to about 80mph and have to let go of the throttle because it is to rough out.
Anyways I installed the 45 pilots in the carbs today hoping it would solve my idle down issues.Well basically when I come to a stop, the idle will drop down nicely to 1800 now without hesitation. That is one good thing.I still cannot punch it from 1800 smoothly to wot.Seems to be a bog yet.I feather the throttle to about 3000 and pin it and she rockets off like hell.Got my wot rpm's where I want it ,8400-8500 and not a rpm over..this is great. Now the warm weather probably don't help here.So I am thinking...maybe I am lugging the motor down to much with 6.7 grams on the heel of the HC's.I have 8.1 grams in the tip and that seems fine.I figured out today that my engagement is about 3800 ish or a touch over.I am trying for around 4000 engagement.I had 6.2 grams in the heel before and seemed to be around 4000.Will to much weight in the HEEL really cause the motor to hesitate on launch.I just need it to free wheel once I hit the throttle hard, with no hesitation or bog whatso ever.
I know the HC's are really working good in the clutch, belt grab is unbelievable.Actually because of lack and loose snow,if I am riding at about 40-50 mph and punch it,I can feel the upshift as it is rapid,so rapid that the track at that speed starts to spin violently and just keeps spinning out until I let go of the throttle.I have gone back to see in the snow and the track spin goes for a good 1/4 mile, unbelievable. These HC's sure do put the power to the track.Wish I had more snow for better traction. If it weren't for all that spinning on the crappy snow, and traction was great..I imagine my arms would be stretched a bit.Just need to solve the low end bogginess.

well i did notice that putting too mutch heel weight makes the sled less zippy, i had 5.8g in the heel and it was too mutch to my liking, i now have only 4.8 and the engagement is around 4100 and i like it there. I have now 7.5gram in the tip and am reving 8500-8600 right where i wanted it! And the snow was hardpack tonight over here. how many turns out on the 45 pilots? i have them too and they are at 1.125 and i still need more gas down low, will try them at 1.75

It's not in your clutching if you can rev the motor up to just below engagement and it takes off like how you describe as "a rocket". My opinion is that what you are describing (or the way I am interpereting it... I could be reading it wrong) is completely normal. This is why snocross and other racers keep the sleds revved up to just under engagement when they are at the gates... they never pin it from an idle. I don't know, like I said maybe i'm reading it wrong but it sounds completely normal to me.

well changeup,I was told that to much heel weight will lug the motor down,so I will try different combo weights on the heel and see what will happen.Thanks.You still haven't ridden your beast this season I am gathering.Do you have snow in your area.

turbor....I have the 45 pilots turned out 1.5 turns right now.Once the motor is warmed and run for a while, when I come to a stop, the idle will drop down to 1800 right away.I had problems with it not doing that before.Just got to drop the heel weight to achieve a better holeshot without hesitation or bogging.

Haven't been out yet, just got it to fire last night and need to bleed coolant, tighten up the track, and re-install the hood. then I can start on my clutching. I'm running H/C's too this season, I hope it runs stronger this year than it did last year. We have some good rideable snow here until this week rolls along and we get the +12 temps and rain for a week.. You're right, too much weight will lug the motor down, I just can't see it being the problem as if you rev the motor a little before pinning it you go flying... but I have been wrong many, many times before. Give it a try and see how it works out.

+12 and rain, man that is nuts .Winter out here is very bleak this season.Don't see any snow in the long range either. There really is no good place to ride now.Anthing that was good last week has been destroyed by 72 km south winds the other day which caused drifting and bumpiness everywhere it was smooth before.I can't open it up anywhere knowing a 1.5 to 2 foot drift is across the path.So I took out my ditchbanger(01 SXR600) and busted up them drifts.Made my own mogol race course.About a mile long along the ditch where it was drifted bigtime, just gave her and barely hanging on,just nailed them drifts up and down and now have a race course full of packed mogols.I love to try to stay on the sled when I go thru this course.A few times I almost lost the sled. It's neat..you hit one good mogol,up you go,come down hard and fast and before the ski's even touch..I am up and over again..flying sideways..you aim for the right and you bounce to the left and just hang on.Each pass I try to get thru it faster..with in reason.Today my legs are really sore and arms. But it was fun.Wouldn't do this with the SRX.Mind you I have hit little drifts across the path I travel at 80mph with the SRX and she is straight up and back down to hit the next one. After a while I had to slow her down.Don't want to go airborne much with the SRX,but with the SXR..anything goes man.Try crossing a v-shape drainage ditch at 50mph and it introduces the hood to your face...straight vertical up.all in a split second. But I always hang on,I will not abandon my sled unless I think I am going to die or get crushed by it on landing.
My brother-in law some 10 years ago up north was racing some guy along the RR tracks up in Churchill,Manitoba. He hit the manual switching arm and his sled flipped,he was tossed off and the sled landed on his chest and crushed him.Basically he died instantly. That was a sad day for the family.

4 grams heel; 3 gram bolt inner & tip. Go tear it up.
