Do the reed spacer or Notch your Reeds. I find these Twins are a dog between 4-6...I put reed spacers on this summer and it has gotten better, but it still isn't 100%.
My Buddies 94 Vmax 600 is the same, it really takes off from 6-8000, but seems to kind of burble between 4-6000,
You may be able to get it a little better with some jetting changes, but that is the way they are in stock form. Make sure your carbs are clean and set to proper stock specs, do the reed spacer mod, and peel your head gasket, then if your still having the issue, play with Jetting to get it where you want it.

Where can I pick up reed spacers? Can I just do the reed notch? If I do the reed notch is it the top or bottom? Also when you do the head gasket mod which part of the gasket do you remove?

You can get it from Royal Distributing in Canada, not sure about in the US. Notching the reeds is the same as Reed spacers, so just one or the other. Look in the Tech Section for the directions on how to do the notch if that is the route you want to take.pup55 said:Where can I pick up reed spacers? Can I just do the reed notch? When you do the head gasket Mod, you remove the middle layer. Some have removed 2 layers, but I'd suggest just removing the middle, and keeping the other 2. The instructions for that, are also in the tech section, keep in mind if you do this, you should always run Premium fuel, as it increases your compression.
Don't over look cleaning your carbs and ensuring they are all set to Stock specs, as it could very well be your sled has a jetting issue, I would say that would be step #1 as my fuel Economy is closer to 10-12 Miles/gallon, not 7. After going through the carbs then do the reed Notch and peeled Head gasket. But I deff have noticed mine is not as snappy between 4-6 as from 6-8. There is no hesitation, and if I pin it from Engagement to WOT it moves pretty well, but when I am riding a bush trail at lower speeds I deff notice less throttle responce and a burble in the sound of the engine, which disappears after 6000.

Guys when I take my carbs apart this weekend I would like to check the float height. When I do check the float height do I measure to the float it's self or do I measure to the float arm? Also do I measure to the highest part of the float?
