Put on about 130KMs today, and for the first bit, sled ran perfect.
Later in the trip, TACH and fuel gauge went dead....then would come back, then dead again...all the gauge lights stayed on at all times...headlight taillight grips all worjked the whole time....just the Tach itself and the fuel gauge... WHAT THE HECK??? any ideas? bad ground, rub through?
ALSO, my indicator light was flashing 7 times over and over.....7 flashes...7 flashes....7 flashes....
2 questions....
1 - what does the 7 blinks mean?
2 - is this related to the tach, or a separate issue?
Near the end of the ride on a lake....didnt have the snappy top end....after 120KM/H, made a weird sound, and wouldn't wind out...then suddenly POW, jumped to 159 KM/H (didnt move the throttle at all) then after a few KMs...back down to 120KM
Please let me know your thoughts

seven flashes is you got a discontinuity or shorting of the servomotor is
detected.
check for the harness rub through under the motor, may be causing
all your problems here..
pv's were not working thats why top end suffered

ok, Ive heard of this rubthrough, but how do you check the harness under the motor?
Can you disconnect all electrical and pull it out? I dont have to yank the motor do I?

here's how ya do the harness,
"Unhook the harness up by the hood hinge, then tie some string onto the harness, now reach down between the pipes and bend back the little black metal fold over clamps, then go over by the recoil housings and get a hold of the wire harness and pull it out by about 2 feet, i am guessing youll find the harness rubbed thru and the copper showing on a few wires. tape up each wire sperately and then tape up the whole harness, I always use black auto convolute tubing available at most any auto parts store and place harness in that, then using your string pull the harness back and reconnect,"

I always glue over the cuts 1st then tape....I rerouted this harness on my SRX as I couldn't believe yamaha was stupid enough to jam it under the engine. Mine was not that easy to pull out either...good luck.

m'yeah, not looking forward to it...but what else can I do for the 3 days of rain in the forcast!!!
Dammit...such a shame....such a good start to the season, and now +8 and rain for 3 days....going to ruin the trails

Im also going to pull all 3 pipes, just to make it easier to get at the wiring....
I'll take Yammy's engineering any day.....mine is pushing 15,000K and this is the first sign of any issues....so, take a look at the competition...like my buddy's Summit X 670 H.O......getting rebuilt again, only 6000K on the damn thing!!!!
Not to mention my buddy rode his brand new polaris IQ today...and fouled 2 plugs, and couldn't get it out of reverse...for a bit.....YAMMY ALL THE WAY
she still smokes most NEW 700's....

as long as you remove the black fold over clamps down by the pipes the harness will come out pretty easily, there is one you cant get at under the engine but 1 doesnt make it too bad, as you can read by someone pasting my reply on post #4 how to do it. If you wanna make life real easy since youll have the pipes off remove the airbox as well youll be wide open to work on it then.

ok, so exposed the harness, and brown wire was horrible...there ws slight rub through on a few others.
Now, the 8 wires in this harness, none of them go to the power valves.
Earlier I mentioned that I couldnt get the top end out of it...then suddenly POW, over 100 mph...the down to 85 mph...up down up down.
Does this harness have any impact on this, or should I yank the airbox, and check that PV harness?
Could a bad ground on that one have a daisy chain effect on other eletrical?
I mean, it obvious a few wires need fixing...bu I still wonder about the sudden lack of power, then full power...

Hello I Had A The Same Light On My Sled This Season Early I Took The Servo Cover Off To Find My Cables All Twisted And Out Of Wack! I Cleaned The Pvs Pre Season I Must Of Losened The Cables When Cleaning Hope This Helps!

Strap your harness back together and you should be good to go. If the harness was rubbed through somewhere it can cause all sorts of problems. Powervalves not functioning are not far fetched at all. I would repair the harness, get it back in there and try it out. If the servo is still acting up work your way from the servo out to trace the problem, but I bet you have it fixed.

sweet....sounds good.
I was really suprised how bad the wires were....this summer, I plan to yank the engine all together, and when I do, the whole harness will be inside a wire loom, which will be the end of this rub-through issue all together.
I am going to repair the harness this evening, and I'll go from there. I am also finally separating my hand/thumb, so I can check the PV wires too (if the harness repair doesn't resolve the PV issue) while I'm accessing the hand/thumb wiring on that side

well, taped it up, but couldn't get it to go back through that hook...stripped the rest of the tape off....
I decided to cut the goddam thing all together, and going to re-run it over the motor until this summer when I yank the motor....it hurt to snip all those wires, but I cannot take a chance with exposed wires like that.
I drilled and tapped 2 holes along the aluminum rail that separates the motor from the clutches, and bolted on some wire holders....and re-used some of the fold-over hooks....Its pretty secure, and I double tapes the harness from start to back, just for extra protection....
That being said, is there a specific part number for just that 8wire harness?
Even though I soldered and shrink tubed them, I hate the fact that the original harness has been hacked into.
