95 v-max500 bogging at 5,000 rpms
Ok so i just got this sled this week and took it for a trip today.
Well we headed out and my sled bog's at about 5000,5500 rpms it will do it any time i thought it was a fouled plug so i put 2 new ones in and it ran like a raped ape for about 20 mins then it started again.
Once ya hit 6,000 it purrs like a kitten.
Its does this and you have to hammer the throttle and its un known when it will just get up and go. I even tried running 93 gas.
Im thinking maybe
clean the carbs?
Too rich?
Hotter plugs?
What ya'll think????
This is annoying to have to putt up a hill and have no control on speed up a hill or even on a nice flat stretch

Based on your new plug scenario it sounds fuel related as Daman stated, but I would take a close look at your primary clutch rollers as well as weights while your digging into this. Lately I have worked on 2 differant mid 90's Vmax's that the owners swore up and down the carbs needed cleaning because it wouldnt run right. Well the carbs did indeed need cleaning BUT the problem on both occasions was the rollors and weights where shot.
On both occasions the sleds would "climb to a certain rpm and then bog, once the power would climb past the bad spot it would surge".
Not saying this is your problem, but its worth a look

Ok for some reason when i pull this in the garage and i do find out its the clutch.
I have another clutch on a 600 sitting under the work bench i was told the clutch was rebuilt before the ring broke in the motor.
Will this clutch work on the 500 motor or will it be differnt?
I just got into sledding las year and still learning lots about these things.

Same clutch but the internal componants are differant between the two sleds, and will shift differant in both engaugement as well as full shift.

dont change clutched unless you know what is wrong with yours. As said above the internal parts will not be the same anyways. Put the sled up on a stand and see what the clutches do. If they are binding you have clutch problems and need to inspect.

check for worn rollers in the clutch and deffinatly clean the carbs. Other than that it should run fine.

Ok so I cleaned the carbs they wernt dirty. But i cleaned um up.
Put it on a jack stand and revved her up. it doesnt bog down when on the stand. only when its on the ground.
So what yall think now. My buddy says its fuel related but doesnt know exctaly what.

Ok so i got the clutch off and i took it to a good friend which is a major sled head.
He said the clutch isnt too bad but has a worn roller so were just going to rebuild the whole thing.
Well right before i took it off i took it for one last trip down to feed the cows and on the way back up it didnt want to even climb a little hill without me getting off and helping it.. Whats with this?
So i got the clutch off the 600 and put on just as a temporary part and it does the same thing i have to help it up the slightest snow mound or hill.
And its been hard to start a squirt of earthier and one pull it starts. I never had this before?
So tonight im going to get the book out and tear apart the carbs and check all the internal components. Mainly to check the needle.
While im in there any other sugjestions?
Im starting to get real pissed at this thing... I dont know what the heck its problem is.

Have you done a compression check on this sled? Should read around 120 psi.

if your rollers are bad inspect the spider carefully. Those Polaris clutches eat spiders.
Also make sure the weights move and do not hang up as the move along the rollers.
These are common with your clutch.

I did a compression check on both cylinders i got about 110.
Well i looked at the plugs and well they were black! Actually black wasnt the word.
But i had 2 better one laying around cleaned them up and stuck um in took it for about a 20 min spin and well it runs like a raped ape! Im on my way to the parts store to go buy a couple new plugs.
Question i want to ride this weekend is it going to hurt to ride with the clutch off the 600 on my motor? Or should i wait till i get mine back?

Jet your sled. It runs good on new plugs because they are not carboned up.
there should be a chart on your belt guard. Jet for your altitude and temp.
