could it be the stator?

went on a ride yesterday. I had a few problems. mainly, the sled( 02 viper )
didn't seem to be putting out enough power. The gauge pod was dim, headlights as well. The power valves worked sometimes and other times they didn't. hand and thumb warmer very weak .When I'd hit the brakes the gauge would cut out briefly and then kick back on
I ended up taking the seat off on the trail and unhooking the taillight. I checked over the wire harness under the motor also under the seat. no damage. It just really seemed like it wasn't putting out enough power.
I thought maybe the stator. I was hoping for some info on how to go about checking it. How do you go about taking it off. I know a flywheel puller is needed are there any pitfalls I should be aware of? finally if not the stator what else could cause the symptoms?
Thanks

Just a shot here..... but I know that some of the srx's and sx's had issues where the wire harness would get rubed through under the motor. Not sure if it was an issue on the Vipers.

Unplug the connectors and pull the harness out from under the motor and check for rub through.

I do not remember hearing about problems with stators on the vipers.

Search some of my recent posts. Just went through this ordeal. Did everything you did. Unless you have a really good ohm meter, the only right way to test it is with a bridge ohm meter. Pretty much every thing tested good on mine until I took it off and brought it to work and tested it on a Surge Comparison tester (I work for a electric motor reconditioning facility). It failed on one of the phases but still put out acceptable ohm values with a fluke. Just replace the stator.

I'm sorry, I figured you would have put two and two together when I said I pulled it off and tested it. Doesn't make sence to put it back on if it's bad. Yes I did replace it and it works perfectly fine now.

All the symptoms your describing could also be the wiring harness like was previously mentioned. As it is free to check the harness, I would do that before buying and replacing the stator. They won't let you return electrical parts after you've installed them. Just my 2 cents.

I Just Had The Same Problems With Cut Out Of The Dash And Lights It Was My Harness, I Guess You Checked It But Look Carfully And Wipe It Down To Clean It Because I Over Look Mine The First Go Around. Good Luck!

Thanks, I will take a close inspection when I rip into it. Thinking of doing some work on it tomorrow. I'll let you know how I make out.
