Would anyone know the stock HP rating for the V-MAX 540 engine? Just want to compare against the Exciter 570 HP rating. THANKS!

What does the Exciter have? I think that the Exciter 570 and the Exciter II 570 and Exciter II 570 SX were all different hp ratings.
From this site, which is incredible!, member ramblnman gave me these figures on the exciter--- 87-90 77HP @ 7250 rpm, 91-93 77HP @ 7500 rpm, and 93 exciter sx 93HP @ 7750 rpm. I was just curious how close the two motors were for HP in stock form (brother-in-law picked up a 89 exciter to rebuild)

wow, pretty big jump in hp between the SX and the regular exciters. I'm suprised that the VM540 has more hp than the exciters did.

The Vmax was built for the higher performance/Lake racer crowd with it's twin pipe/carb setup. Yamaha marketed the Exciter as a lower Hp., higher torque, turn to turn Trail sled. Within a couple of years the Magazines had quit praising the Exciter and complained bitterly about Yamaha not haveing a top end lake racer and hence the Vmax4 was developed !
