I have a '93 Exicter II 570 twin with round slide carbs. I recently took them apart to clean them and look them over as the sled is new to me and the previous owner didn't maintain them all to well.
They have some sort of electronic solenoid on them next to the air/pilot screws. I am not sure what they are or what they do. The solenoid extends into the venturi where it looks like a plactic rod extends and retracts into and out of the venturi. Anyone know what this is?
Also, the tech info on the belt guard says the air/pilot screws should be turned out only 5/8 of a turn. Just about every sled or 2-cycle carb I have ever worked on the air/pilot screws are ususally set at 1-1/2 to 2 turns out. Is the info on the belt guard right?
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mills

I was messing with an Exciter myself, I think your solanoids really have to do with the TORS and are infact a switch in conjuction with the throttle lever activates the throttle override system.
I had my air screws at 1 1/2 turns and the sled would just bog, 5/8 and it ran fine. I adjusted mine just like you used to on a car in or out to achive the highest idle RPM.

How abuot the idle screw setting. The idle screws on this sled were set at 3 turns out. Where are yours set? I set the pilot screws at 5/8 turn out and the idle screws at 3 turns out and now I can't get it started. HELP!

Exciter Carbs
The solonoids are for the TORS , wich can be disconnected to bypass TORS to test . 5/8 is correct setting for pilot screws , in richer out leaner . I don't know what you mean by 3 turns out ? The screws with the springs on them are idle speed screws . There is no screw them in and back them out settings . If you have them in to far the TORS may be overiding it, but when TORS comes on the engine still runs just not fast . Pilot screw settings should not stop engine from starting , just start with throtle open some .

Yeah the idle screws with the springs on them are the ones that I was referring to as being 3-turns out from fully seated. Is that a good starting point for idle speed? I know the further I turn them out the slower the idle speed will be.
Right now I am thinking that i have them turned out too far because it doesn't even fire. I may reset them at 1-1/2 turns out and see if that make a differance.
How do you get at your pilot screws without taking the carbs loose? On this one all the junk connected to the TORS solenoids is blocking my access to them so I am having to take the carbs loose and rotate them to get at the screws.

you will have to make sure that both carbs are in sync at idle and above or you will have loads of problems.
