1979 SRX 440 new comet 108 set-up

I've got a 1979 srx 440 I picked up 6 years ago!
had 780kl on it! When I got it running the primary
clutch was froze-up from sitting! After she broke
free she ran like a champ for 2 seasons. Clutch
started making some noise so I rebuilt it. It never
ran the same after! Just bought a new comet 108!
Could you use some help on set-up! I'm trying to
get the best overall performance out of it! Can I
help with re-jetting carbs also?

is this a 108 exp or a 108 c?
as for jetting, what does your plug color and piston wash tell you?
are the intake and exhaust systems stock?
 
SHAWN, LIKE I PM eD YA. BLOCK POWER JET OFF AND RUN A FIXED MAIN. START AT AROUND A 360. I CAN,T HELP WITH CLUTCH SET-UP. I NEVER USED NOTHING BUT YAMAHA YP OR 102 c ON ANY OF MY SRX,s. 3:16 (yammie tony)

It is a 108exp! I believe it is the new one from comet?
It is what they offered me from shade tree powersports!

Tony,
I'm trying to find some 360 jets, local dealer is out.
I'll give it a try! Figures it's snowing!
 
I have a bunch of extra 4/042 type main jets I can sell $2.50/ea. shipped.
 
Would that be the jetting I need to get this thing running
like a champ? I have one more place to check and I might
take you up on this, trying to get it back together fast!
(it's snowing here in ohio finally)

108 exp is junk it will not work i had one on my 79 and could not get it to work if i remember corectlly it is a larger diamater than the 102c go with the
102c i think we ran large purple spring 1 shim w/ c-1 or c weight's engagment
would be high enugh to get out of the bottom end bog. please remember this was 15-18 years ago and im going on memory only

O.K. what is the difference between the 108exp and
the 102c??? They didn't even give me a choice for
the 102c they just gave me the 108exp when I told
them I wanted to get a comet clutch for a 1979 srx 440!
Should I take it back and get a 102c if they list one
for that sled????? They did give me the N-1 wieghts
and the purple spring!

That is the clutch listed for that sled online! (219703)108exp, n-1, purple!
 
I CAN,T ANSWER YA BECAUSE I DON,T KNOW WHAT WAS SOLD TO YOU. AND MAYBE YOUR GOT SOMETHING BETTER. ALL I CAN SAY IS THOSE WEIGHTS AND SPRING ARE FOR THE 102 c. I ALSO KNOW THE 102c IS STILL VERY AVAILABLE. WHAT I USE TO DO IS BUY BARE ONES AND GET WEIGHTS AND SPRING SEPRATE. THE PART # FOR BARE ONES WAS 212600A. 3:16 (yammie tony)
 
The 102 and 108 are nearly identicle. The 108 has a slightly larger diameter so it can be spaced to use a wider belt. I would use the 108.
