Anybody know what this is worth from the dealer? In the last three years i have put 3 used ones in, and think i might buy new this time.

Mike

You should do a search for rear skid fix. betheviper has a good tech fix if your breaking them.

Or just put a different skid in.

it appears the Edge skid works pretty well in pro action chassis

I always used to weld mine when they broke, and I re-inforced them by welding on additional plates and angles.

just weld it up. here is mine.

I see the "W" arm and the nice paint job but I can't tell where it was broken or normally breaks... I don't know where these things break.. any help is appreciated...

this is powdercoated to help keep out the water and salt. it will break right where you see my brackets welded. and also along the top round tube where the square tubes are welded.

I welded gussets in the same place, still broke... What do you guys think about removing the bump stops? or maybe cut them down a little. I think the W arm flexes over top of them, causing it to crack or break,

Mike

they only bend around the bump stops because the bushings in the w arm and front shock are wore out causing the bump stop on the shock to not work. for the w arm to last, it needs to have the shock and bumpers all bottom out at the same time. another cause of this is the lower shock mount starting to turn.

they are a weak item to start with, these other issues just make it worse.

I have well over 10,000 km's on my SXR600 w-arm,still not breaking or cracking anywhere.I check it every once in a while.I keep it painted like new every summer so there is no chance of rusting. But when I bought my SRX used, the arm was cracked all over.Simply had it welded and re-inforced and it is good.I also tightened up the whole skid properly, extra grease zerks, bushings, needle bearings in front shock ends, keep front shock at 0 pre-load and limiters not to tight.
I followed BETHEVIPER'S instuctions how to tighten up the skid.Went thru it all in the summer.New bearings also..etc.
I have a brand new w-arm from the dealer as a spare.I think I paid some $250 for it.Also have another one that needs to be re-welded and re-inforced.So that will make 3 all together. If one goes,R&R and I am ready to go again.I am not waiting for parts. Ordered a whole wack of extra bushings for the future and have them ready to R&R also if I need to quick.

Thank you for the info BTV... and Bluemonster for answering my original question. going to buy new do the BTV fix and fix this one for spare,

Mike
