I bought a 2001 SRX 700 at the end of last year's winter. I drove it around this guys house and it ran great. I took it home and never really had a chance to ride it till last weekend. Hop on this bad boy and take off after about 5 minutes of riding it stalls and dies. I cant get this thing started.... after awhile it starts but now runs like crap(electrical) speedo bounces lights flicker and it wants to stall if I let the throttle go.

I call the guy up (Ebay member) he says... the lights he has on it are the blue aftermarket ones. I should run the light switch on high power and I possibly could of burnt the 2 relay switches by my left knee. Before I get started.... does this sound like a load of crap or is he right :dunno: ?

Thanks in advance guys... I dont have much $$ to take it in and get fixed. I'm on my own on this one.

Start with cleaning the carbs and then look if the main wire harness under the engine has a bare wire shorting out. Do a search on this forum for more info.

Crabs are clean... did that over the summer. This is more electrical then motor. It's not running hot either. It just runs half butt, lights flickering, gauges dancing. Would there be two relay switches? I was thinking coil but was hopeing not...

Do a search on wire harness rub through, sounds like to could have the issue ,,it's a simple fix.

do that first then post back..

clean the carbs again. when they sit they get dirty and plugged. it also might be the wire harness that runs under the motor.

Allrighty

Ok.. guys I'll tinker this sat/sun on wire harness and check the carbs again. I'll let you you know. Thank you very very much for your input.

SRX run crappy

I start the sled so I can move it to the shed to work on it... Now it works fine.... but the Temp Light stay'd on and never shut off (blinked twice). I let it run, run, run I tried to get it hot but it never acted funny and the motor was not hot.... but the temp gauge light was on. I was not able to run it up an down (Washington, MI) has no snow.

So to narrow down I did check the carbs (good) I did pull the wire harness out (good, only 2,300miles), I did pull off seat and noticed a little rub thru but not all the way(taped it good). I did take the CDI box off and the two relay switches next to it. I need to know if these can be tested anywhere local in S/E Michigan.

Thanks guys!
Ben
