My bud has an MXZ 800 and while trying to replace the recoil rope he pulled the spring out and now needs to rewind it and put it back in.Is there an easy way to do this?I haven't seen the recoil so I'm just going by what he explained to me but I know any time I inadvertently did this it was a real bear to get back in and requires alot of patience.Anyone have any tricks or tips?

Pound a nail into a workbench. Hook one end of the spring on the nail. Now wrap the spring around tight while someone else holds the end to the nail. Once you get it wrapped tight enough, lock it in place with a needle nose vise-grips. Now go over to the recoil housing set the spring assembly in place, carefully release vise-grips and you're done.

Make sure you have the spring facing the right way so you do not put it in backwards. Wear gloves and your helmet with the face shield down.
Hook the outer end of the spring into the housing and use your thumbs to work the band into place from outside to inside as the spring turns around.

I had major problems getting my spring back in on my SXR last year.Simply gave up.Wound it up but couldn't get the end back in place in the housing. My hands were pure black from that.Went to grab the spring from my old 76 Pantera which at the end had a better hook and it went in and have been using it since. For the SRX,which hasn't broken yet,I just purchased a whole new recoil complete as a spare. It will just bolt in and on my way again.GOOD LUCK YOU GUYS> BM1
