Every time I let off the throttle and go to get back in it I HAVE to come to a complete stop so the computer (???) resets so it will rev back up again. I tried to loop the switch at the carbs as instructed by the Yamaha dealer but it didn't help. Is there a way to bypass the switches all together?

did you loop the carb end or the sled harness end? its the sled harness end that gets looped, the carb wires dont have to be looped

I looped the harness end. This thing is driving me crazy. Whenever I trail ride in a group I have to be in the back becauseaverage trail speeds are just barely open throttle and if I let off I have to pull over. This is dangerous at low speed (45) trail riding.

bringing this back from the dead..... still looking for either some help on this one or maybe a new throttle switch. I know its not the carbs cause I had them looped.
stop to go
Howdy pipdvip. I'm new to this place, but not to sleds. My '03 viper mtn. started doing the same thing today. It isn't consistant, but appears to be getting worse. I think it has something to do with the tree it got to know early on in the ride. bumper, brackets, hood got shoved back a bit, and kinked the pipe enough to cause a leak. any how, I haven't looked it over well enough to find the problem yet. I guess I was interested in your findings if any. I'll be sure to let you know what I find if you haven't already fixed yours. good luck and thanks.

Did you check the wire harness under the motor for chaffed wires?
Not yet. We're getting more snow today, so I'd better get on iy.

well ,I thought I was the only one having this trouble but I see a lot of people on here having similar issues. I got a new throttle assem hoping to fix the prob. Mine showd up not long after rolling the sled 2 years ago! I changed the bars to a set of Renthal aluminum bars and made a 4" billet riser. After changing everything and riding and 100 miles or so later mine started acting up. I'm checking wires today.

What is it doing exactly? Is it not revveing like it is hitting a limiter or it just won't rev up again without stopping?

sounds like what is starting to happen to me all of a sudden. Be riding along just fine, let off the throttle completely for a second, then when I try to get going again the TORS kicks in thus making me come to a stop. Once I stop and let the rpm's slow down I can then take off again like nothing is wrong.
Also getting the code for the thumb warmer resistor flashing, so I think I may have a chaffed wire or two somewhere.

Just a thought. I had the same thing going on and the wire for thumb warmer had to much slack near the warmer so when I let off the gas the throttle pin would hit the wire and kick the tors in. I noticed chaf on the wire and pulled out the slack and it fixed it. worth a look

I'll be checking that today !!

sounds like textbook TORS to me....are you sure you have the harness looped correctly to deactivate TORS?
If you discover that it is tors kicking in, then have a look at the throttle cable free play....Any problems i have ever had with TORS was because the throttle cable was too tight.

well viperino, since this did show up after I installed the risers and renthals, I might be a tad tight on the cables. Thanks.

Need snow to get ANY results. More rain in the forcast for tomorrow. 1 more week, 14 hour drive, and I get to see some snow for the 1st time this year! I'd drive 2 days straight for snow if I had to!
I'm not going to be a butthead and tell you how much fun I had or how deep the powder was yesterday. I will tell you that I'm not having any more issues with my TORS. I took everyones advice. Checked the thumbwarmer wire. It was rubbing. Cleaned the TORS switch at the carbureator. It was filthy. Adjusted my throttle free play and cleaned-lubed the throttle lever and cables. These were somewhat sticky but not real bad. Adjusted my oil injection cable .Was off by 2mm. Rode for about five hours saturday without a hickup. I wasn't able to start the sled between each proceedure, so I'm not sure what fixed it. I know it needed all of it though.

My experience with TORS is that the symptoms can be seen on the jackstand in the garage....should be able to fix it without snow so you dont have to worry about it before you hit the white stuff
