ok I need some help guys, the sled starts perfect, idles fine, but wont get over 4500-5000 rpm.Takes off fine out of the hole and then falls flat on its face.Stays running on both cylinders ,but no power. Its not in the carbs as I have replaced them. Also has new plugs, pistons, rings, good compression.Could it be the stator???? Help!!!

How are the clutch/secondary? Did you check the resistance of your plug caps?

Clutches are good as well as the plug gaps.Even on a stand it starts to bog out at around 5000 rpm

I meant to check the resistance of the spark plug wire caps. These should be 5000 ohms iirc.

okk,I dont want to sound stupid but is there something inside of them that can go bad?

Trust me it's not a stupid question. I don't know how they go bad, but everynow and then they will get bad. They are basically just a conductor. I think it's the cycles of heat and high voltage that essentially wears these out. I had some go on mine. BAsically you unscrew them from your spark plug leads coming from your CDI and put your multimeter on them. Should read 5000 ohms. I think mine were OL (out of limits). I wondered why I couldn't get spark. I think I've heard that some will act as yours, not allowing it to spark as it should as the motor ramps up. I'm not a mechanic, so I'm sure someone can have a better explanation. If you're sure everything else is checking out (clutches, compression, carbs, etc.) How do your plugs look after it bogs out @ 5000 rpm?

When mine did that i had a broken piston ring in my 94 VMAX 600. When you slowly pull the starter rope does it feel like you have good compression on both cylinders. You will know if one is not right.

Also check the exhaust for blockage. Thats what it will do if it's partially plugged. It will allow the exhaust to flow at idle but not at higher rpm's/airflow.
I assume that since you were into the carbs that you checked the airbox for presence of a nest, nuts, wool, etc.

Darn sleds....why don't they just talk to us in a language we all can understand....

if not in the carbs do like Dnale said check clutches for worn out parts, or
check compression, you shure it's fireing/running on both?
