Just put on a new ohlin 36pc and KYB center in my srx which I long traveled a few weeks ago, all from PP after going with bruces recommendation for my weight and riding style.
First ride out and it was a stiffer ride than the stock 02 viper shocks I took out! FRA was set in the middle and had to dial the comp dampener down to 1-2 clicks from softest to make the ride tolerable.
Called Bruce and he suggested setting it to the softer FRA setting. Did this and with the damping set still a 2 clicks it was ok. Went and did 180 miles Saturday night, first 100 or so miles ride was ok, but it went south after that.
After about 5 scattered miles of 1+ foot bumps the rear ohlin spring went soft and rear of the sled sagged about 2 inches. bumped the comp dampener up to 6 clicks from soft and it just made the ride hard over the bumps.
Do the Ohlins require a break in? or did the shock go bad?

I have the same rear shock in my viper but mines a 136 track. I adjusted the spring with the fra at the softest setting till the sespention didn't sag with no waight on the sled. Transfer rods at max transfer. Dampening adjustment on 5 i think. A brand new spring will sag a bit but should set in after a few hundred miles. You will have to re adjust the spring. The ride on mine is a lot better then stock but it took a little adjusting to make it work.
thanks for the info.. Didn't think it would sag that much! Only have 208 miles on it now counting the intial setup runs.
Just suprised at how stiff the spring was and only being able to comfortable ride with the dampener set at 2 from softest and the loss of steering as the spring went soft so quick.
I have the transfer rods set at 15mm with no load, Bender transfer rods set at 4(2.5mm shim on bottom) with a 50/50 gap split with me on it, fra set at soft. Limiter straps with 5/8 threads showing, center spring 3 turns in from loose with no load.
any other suggestions to improve ride?
