My buddy got one for free, its not in all bad condition it didnt run. they tore it apart and found the main crank barrings were bad. my question is do you think i should rebuild it, or just find a running motor off of anouther sled? they dont want to spend to much money on it so what would be the cheapest rout. i was kinda getting excited for him to join in on snowmobiling but there starting to turn away with the motor being shot.

Find an engine from a wrecked 1996 Vmax 600 and bolt the engine in. You are looking at about $500 for a rebuilt crank.

When you buy a used motor you might not get anything better than what you have, cheap motors are usually cheap for a reason.

Well I got a 600 for $500 and had to reringed it. So in all I spent 600 by the time I was done, I also replaced the recoil rope while I had it out. I got everything from the wiring to the carbs. I had a pipe and the airbox from the 570 works.

yeah, but there's plenty of those 600's around and not a lot of demand for them. Really, there are plenty of those engines in excellent condition for about $500. I know of two for sale right now that are in fine shape.
