Hey just burned down one cylinder a little over a week ago in my 98 srx 700. so now i am looking for a used head for that one cylinder. my 98 heads were shaved 30 thousands. my question is does anyone know if heads from a 2000 srx are close or are they way different? just wondering if i bought a 2000 head and shaved 30 thou if it would be the same as the others. or maybe a 2000 head shaved 20 thou would be the same i dunno just wondering if anyone has any intput. asking because i found some used 2000 heads locally otherwise i'll be searching this site for anyone with a 98 head. thanks

THEIR WERE SOME DEFFERENCE IN DOME SIZE ON 2000-01-02 VS 98-99, BUT IF I WERE YOU I MATCH ALL THREE TO SIZE. ANOTHER WORDS THREE 2000 HEADS DONE OR THREE 98 HEADS DONE. JUST SO YA KNOW. 3:16 (yammie tony)

the 2000-02 heads are tighter and smaller in dome, If you change them out use all 3 as a set, you could flat cut the 2000-02 heads .015" for your engine. Or find another stock 98 head and do the .030" flat cut.
98-99 heads are 8dn-00 and the 2000-02 are 8dn-10 on the casting numbers.

ya that's what i was thinking. cheaper to find one 98 head and have it shaved then a full set and have them done. also i know that the squish is ok with the 98 heads shaved 30 thou (as per Mrviper checking when i had my motor ported). don't know if it would still be good with a set of 2000 and newer shaved that same amount. Don or someone might know how far i can shave with the newer style heads and still be safe. think if i got a full set of 2000 or newer i'd have to shave them though to get back the compression that i understand you lose with porting. who knows maybe my old heads shaved 30 thou were good but could have been shaved more for even better gains, maybe now is my chance to change a few things.

lol i typed too slow Don, hahah thanks for the input. flat cutting the 2000-02 heads at 15 thou would that give me more or less compression than my 98 heads flat cut at 30 thou? just wondering if one would work better than the other? cause now's my chance after all this work to make any changes.

youll be real close to the same as before, the 2000-02 might show a couple more lbs of compression on the guage.

Ok now you have to excuse me but I´m from Sweden and having some trouble with your kind of measuring=)
That means 30 thousands of an inch, right?
Maybe someone can translate that to millimeters rightaway?

.03937 of an inch is 1 mm. So the thought would be to shave about .75 of a mm off of the head. Does this make snese? Here is another way to figure it out, if you take the .030 number and multiply it by 25.4, as there is 25.4 mm in an inch. Hope this helps. Tracy

Thanks, then I had it right=)

Ok now I measured my squish and I have 1,4mm or .055 on my SRX 700 -99.
Can I really cut my heads .030!?

What is the squish measurement I wannna have on my rebuilded stock engine? The gas I´m running is like your premium 92 I think.
