Pulled the spark plug caps off of my 98 SRX6 and noticed a decent amount of black power that fell out and was on the plug itself. Seems like Ive noticed trace amounts in the recent past(last year) but I dont ride the sled much.
Any thoughts on what it is and what caused it?
I have new caps coming , figured it may be from poor connection causing spark to arc inside the boot?? Hell , I dont know!! lol

yes, your exactly right. they just go bad, its not uncommon to have a misfire thats hard to trace down from the boots as well.
Thanks mrviper, should I get a squirt bottle out and hose it down and watch for the fireworks? Or am I looking to get a good zap that way?

I just went and bought 3 new NGK caps for $2.49 each. Pretty good deal when my dealer wants $12.36 each plus tax for the same ones.

Not sure if it's a good idea or not but I've been putting di-electric grease in the caps for a couple seasons. Started doing this years ago when working on cars.

Di-electric grease is an excelent idea. You can buy it in an aerosol can at Autozone. This is the same stuff they give you in a GOOD set of plug wires for a car. Do every connector on the sled!!
