Hey guys I convinced Chris over at snowmobiles.yamahablogs.ca to do a write-up on the SRX 700! It will be fun reading the story of how this sled came to be one of the fastest sled around. Why they felt they needed to go full out with a triple/triple, etc. Can't wait!

Well it's coming! Here is what Chris had to say in his latest blog entry.
"In a recent comment Carl asked me to post a story about the SRX development and I’ve been thinking of writing something on it. I will be traveling down to Minocqua WI in a couple of weeks where I’ll be meeting with my old pal Masa Saito at our test center. He is in charge of testing these days but I first met him in the eighties when he was a ‘durability’ rider, these are the guys who go round and round and round over the same bumpy course for hundreds if not thousands of kilometers… sign me up. Not! Anyway, Saito-san was the project leader for SRX (and also SXViper). I’m thinking if we can hunker down with a jug of warm sake… I can come up with a heck of a good tale about one of the best sleds ever built (IMHO)."
For those who doesn't know Chris, he is the Senior Product and Research Manager at Yamaha Motor Canada. He has been posting very interesting inside information about Yamaha snowmobiles and racing.
If any of you have any questions about the history, engine choice, etc for the 1998-2002 SRX 700 post them up on Yamaha's blog site. I'm sure he will find answers for us when he writes about it soon.
If your exited as me about this then don't be afraid to comment.

Yes no other than Chris Ried from Yamaha Sled Talk website!northern srx said:Would that happen to be Chris Ried? Definetely would be a good read-can't wait!
He previously did an awesome write up on the development of the Vmax4. If you want to see it you can read it here. He also wrote a follow up with production numbers and a scan of an article that was original printed in Car Styling Magazine (Japan) in March 1992. Good read including wind tunnel testing pictures. This one can be found here.YAMMIEGOD3:16 said:GUYS, COOL. VERY SIMILAR STORIE WAS ON vmax4.com ABOUT THE VMAX4 . VERY COOL. 3:16 (yammie tony)
If his next development write-up is as interesting as the last one, we are in for a treat.

Almost here, woohoo!
Chris Reid: "I also sat down with Masa Saito to spit-ball the SRX development story which I promised Carl. We definitely stirred up some ghosts, had a few laughs and I have a full page of notes to start my tale. Unfortunately, we didn’t swap lies over a bottle of sake as I first thought would be the case but at least I got some ideas and my head doesn’t hurt so bad."

Third installment:
Another Cranky Smoker
Talk about being transparent with us. Here's is a quote from a 1996 pre-prod test report he completed.
"Target is top performance model in this segment/the top performance has to be better than Mach-1."
And there's more...
