So riding home today from work I stopped by a viper. It is a 2002 and is super clean!!! MINT! No reverse or electric start though. I would add reverse at some point for sure...$300-400 used. It has adjustable rods and suspension/shock updates...that is it...all stock and had 1700 miles.....Guy is asking around 3000 but I am sure I could get it for 2600 or less!!!!

So now I have a 2001 srx, just did the clutching per mr viper and turk....it has reverse, 1.25 ripsaw and I long traveled the rear end with Pioneer shocks. My SRX has about 5,000 miles and is in great shape, minus the control arms and anything else that is silver in the front end.....it is overdue for some new paint. My plan was at the end of this season to take her apart and paint up the front suspension stuff and possibly re-ring the engine. I love the SRX but don't really have a lot of time to work on it!!! My thought is to possibly get the viper, go thru it....carbs, suspension, power valves and sell the SRX. I know my SRX should get at least $2400 or more for with a little cleaning......so what would you do???

i've had both. i'd keep the 01 srx.
my reasons- it is faster, looks cooler, sounds cooler, more fun to ride, and is a legendary sled... you may have different reasons.

Thanks for the input....keep them coming!!!! Geeze an srx vote from- hionspeed that was my guess before even reading!!! thanks for that, what are the cons to the viper other than speed???? ....my last name is Speed, I'm not kidding it really is!! but seriously I hardly ever get a chance(at least not this winter) to open the SRX up. I feel like the last guy in the world that needs this rocket at times.

i would buy the viper swap the clutching and track then, add srx pipes and you have best of both worlds.

But seriously

My advice is if you do alot of lake running and smooth trails keep the srx. But if you ride on rough trails majority of the time the viper is the way to go.

Ok I mainly ride groomed trails and a river by my dads(open now!!!) I do have a bad back(2 bad discs, torn 2 years ago) that is why I long traveled the srx....it is just the viper is like NEW....i mean like new, my srx is clean and I love riding it but I need to do some work to it cosmetically and I don't have a lot of free time....I don't mind the work it is just a time thing....maybe a summer project. Then again the viper would be getting reverse for sure and that is a heck of an expense, and of course I'd clutch it too....I would never mess with the triple pipe thing on a viper...I really don't drive all that fast with the wife riding behind. Of course my sled HAS to be faster though.

I live pretty close to you and I have a Viper that has been tweeked and tuned. If we get some snow here this winter we'll go for a ride and you can try it out and see what you think. I only ridden a SRX on a lake for a short run, I would like to try one on the trail.

I own both and IMO the Viper looks better but the SRX is faster. All depends on your ride style and trail conditions YOU ride in most. They both handle the corners just as well as the other but when the trails get bumpy the Viper gets my vote over the hp of the SRX.

I like to believe my sled rides a lot better with the newer pioneer shocks....haven't really rode that much yet! Plus I have yet to dial them in.(PITA compared to my old Poo) I just wonder what a viper sits like, easier to stand???? Or would I still need a riser???(I don't have a riser yet) I also think the Viper is way better looking than an SRX.....seriously the 2001 has some strange coloring too....blue, then black around the windshield area, and then silver tunnel and front suspension. The only time I use the horsepower is on lakes and the river by my dad's. I do love watching the speedo bury! It just doesn't happen that much though.

I'm with ExpertXViper,
I love both sleds, but the Viper in my opinion is the best looking sled out there. It's my dream sled and I own it. Imagine you could say that about your vehicle! :)
SRX wins a race, but Viper gets you there in style and comfort.
Both are the best of Yami's 2 strokes for sure!

my vote is the SRX...the vipers do look good but when you go to a slower sled you always want more...you talk about time not being able to work on your sled but you will be tearing down and going thru this one?? ride yours and go thru it over the summer, freshen it up, paint, buy new parts personalize it some more, :bling: ect...it will always seem new then...like amatosrx says a legend....pick up a m10 for your back issue and call it a night......CP

srx or viper

I have never tried a srx but my 04 viper s sure is sweet in the deeper northern ontario snow with the twisty narrow tails we have around here. About the risers, I am just over 6' and the 4" risers I have it sure makes it more comfortable to ride and easier to transision from standing to sitting.

I would keep the SRX! I had a 99 with longtravel rear, ripsaw track and My Viper really doesn't ride much better. My viper is an ER so rev is a plus!!!!!!! Pound for pound SRX!!!!!!!!!!!

well I guess I'll see what happens, if the guy is willing to deal on the viper I'll probably take it, I will miss the speed of the SRX. Here is another question I didnt think too much about.....I go about 225 my wife is about 130....she has a sxr 700 w/normal mods(head, can, spacers)....who is faster??, sxr with her or me on a stock viper???? IF it even close I MUST keep the SRX!!! Cold day in #ell when she beats me, I'll never hear the end of it.

Can't answer your question but here is what I'm thinking. If she would have the slightly faster sled, is she the type to ride hard? Will she ever have the guts to squeeze the throttle fully and then pass you? Having a fast sled is one thing, wanting to go all out on it is another.

yes she passes me all the time and I reel her in easy with the srx, thank god......we go up north a couple times a year and on the lakes she moves out!!!! One time I fouled the plugs on the srx (35 degrees out) and we got onto a lake....I couldn't go passed 80 and I never heard the end of it!!! Thankfully a gas station actually had plugs for my SRX!!!!! Wouldv'e made a long weekend otherwise.

viper is gonna be alot less power then the srx on a straight away, I am puttin my $$ on the Mrs.....LOL!! She is lighter and minor mods that would be a good race, those sxr can really run good with minor stuff, not a giant hp differance there between a sxr and a viper.
