Looking for some help on a possible electrical short on my Mountain Viper. When I squeeze the brake lever halfway or more, the speedo and tach lose power. When I let off, the power comes back to the tach. This also happens if I hit the Hi/Lo beam switch. Anyone see this before? I can't find any obvious wiring issues. Thanks for any suggestions.
I Had The Same Problem With My 02 Viper The Harness Was Rubbed Through Under The Exhaust Side Rear Motor Mount! I Disconnected The Harness At The Hood Tied A String To It, Took The Pipe And Can Out And Pulled The Harness Back. Oh Ya Theres 3 Tabs That Hold The Harness In Under The Maifold. Just Take Your Time And Pull Easy It Comes Right Out. Soak A Rag With Brake Clean Wipe Her Down And You Should See The Flat Spot And Rub Thru. Mine Only Had One Wire Exposed I Taped It Up And Taped The Crap Out Of The Harness And Sent It Back In! Hope This Helps Good Luck!

So funny you posted this, I just had the same thing happen this Sunday, exactly the same symptoms. I figured it was the harness, will be pulling it and checking over this Friday, plan on putting it in a wire loom like MrViper700 recommends. I guess it can also rub through under the gas tank, I would've thought that's where it would be since that line goes to the brake light. I plan on doing under the tank and motor harness so that I hopefully never have troubles with it again.
I had planned on addressing this problem during my pre-season work on the sled and then got lazy and didn't do it. Nice slap in the face and ironic that it occurred on my first ride out this year.

Any luck yet?
I have my pipes off and the harness pulled out, NOTHING obvious as far as wear marks on the outer jacket. Ran out of time yesterday, so today I'm going to open up the entire length of it and check the individual wires. It has to be either one wire wore through plus the outer jacket so it can ground to metal, or two/more individual wires wore through and arcing to each other I would think. Sound right everyone? I guess if I don't find anything on the harness under the motor, I'll be pulling the tank and checking under there too.
