I've ridden Ski-doo for the last 6 years. I've had two mxz 600's, and I'm looking for something differnt. What is the deal with the 2004 viper s? What type and size is the engine, how would it compare to a ski-doo 600 or 600ho.
What should be the things I look for before I purchase?

Thanks,
Adam

The Viper S is a 700, the pro-action rear suspension is outdated and not going to handle bumps the way a SC10 II or III will. The front end is good(Ohlins shocks come standard)corners flat and handles the large 1 time hits well but transfers chatter bumps to the handle bars. They come with a 1 1/4" ripsaw track, so it has good traction and does decent in the powder.
The sled really runs smooth and in every case that Ive come across will leave a Doo 600 behind. Ive even beaten the Doo renagade 1000 3 out of 4 times that we raced(about 6-700 feet) but I dont think the gade 1000's were known to be overly fast.
I replaced my rear suspension with a AC skid and love the way it handles the bumps now.

Thanks,

How does this sled differ from a 2002 viper? The reason I ask is that my father-in-laws '07 mxz 500ss can beat the viper 3 out of four times. Was this viper a dog? I thought it was a 700 twin. Is the 04 viper s a triple?

All vipers were triple single with power valves.

that viper your FIL raced must have been running like crap

I'll have to test race (I mean drive) before I purchase one. It would piss me off to buy a 700 triple and lose to a 600.
Thanks for the help.

My 02 Viper ER can stay with the early RX1's and is not for behind the later 4 strokers. Engine is bone stock. Just a little clutch work and you can see a consistent 110 on the dreamometer.
Great groomed trail sled but diffenetly not a rough trail sled like a Nytro or Apex RTX

If you lose to a 600 there's something wrong with it. They handle great, and the smooth power and sound is impressive, not to mention the great looks. You can't go wrong with a Viper.

04 Viper s Rock!

My buddy has a mxz 700 ya he's faster out of the hole but by the end of the beach 1-1 1/2 mile he's suck'n' wind. That's right out of the box NO mods. You cant beat the logger legs of a triple. And the sound while doing it.. MUSIC. ;)! :yam:
