Is a 2000 SRX 700 Crank any different from the 1998?

Yes, they are different.
The 2000 and newer has a different PTO stub end(bearing surface) on the crank as the bearing is 1 wide unit where as the 98-99 uses 2 smaller side by side bearings and has a groove in the middle for the race, also the pindowels are differnt for the case.
