Had to drain coolant on my brothers 2001 srx to change heads. Put it back together and now the coolant light will not quite flashing. I thought this system was self purging?
Did you bleed the system? There is a bleeder in the top of the rear cooler. Remove the seat and it's right there.

Would not bleeding the system stop circulation ? My temp light was flashing and the coolant was only luke warm, I turned on the carb heaters and it only flowed for a minute and then stopped again.

You def need to lift the rear of the sled as high as you cand and bleed it while running untill you get a nice spurt of solid fluid. YOU should be able to feel the heat exchangers on the floor board getting nice and warm once you have it bled completely. Last year my light kept coming on right after I did som e work on the sled and once I got the rear lifted way up and bled it real good I havnt had a problem once with the temp light coming on.

No it will not stop circulation and even if it did it would only be while you were letting the air escape from the system. It wont hurt a thing.snowdemonsrx said:Would not bleeding the system stop circulation ? if all you did was drain it by the waterpump drain bolt, you wont have put a bunch of air into the system, the thermostat is equipped with a bleed hole, its located in the top of the stat and the housing has a special hole for this, the coolant recovery/fill tank is the highest part of the system, so by simply filling the engine back up and starting the engine, the air will be moved to the fill jug, the hole in the thermostat allows the air to be pushed out from the cololant being forced up from the waterpump, thru the heads and out thru the water rail. Just start it up and let it idle, you can have the cap off for a min but just dont rev it up, youll see the collant circulating thru the system as it will move via the blled hole in the thermostat, even with stat closed, its supposed to.
