I recently picked up a 2002 Viper with only 230 miles on it from a lady whose husband used to own a dealership. It was one of those deal of deals because I got it cheap and it was absolutely mint. I have since put on a couple hundred miles and would really like to change the track out because the stock track doesn't hook up at all. I am not a big fan of studs so I am thinking about putting in a 1.5" track. Has anyone had any experience installing this size of a track in a completely stock sled. Do I need to install the heat exchanger protectors? Any track recommendations? The sled has a 121" skid.
Thanks!
Thanks!

If you dont plan on running studs and want to run a 1.5in track, remove all the protectors or just the front exchangers(Thats really up to you). I removed all the protectors on my Viper just to run a 1.25in Predator. Was it ness.????? Prolly not but I dont plan on studding it so it doesnt matter IMO.

It'll probably be a summer project, but I'll keep you in mind. The track on there is flawless, I just want more traction without adding steel and carbide.

i hear ya
I just requested a qoute for a new 1 1/2" track so I may make the change sooner than later. Has anyone done this on a 121" skid. I was wondering if I am going to have to change the track drivers to a smaller diamenter. She is bone stock right now.

You can run up to a 1.75in track with stock drivers and all the protectors removed. If you dont remove the protectors with a 1.5in track its going to rub on your front protectors unless you cut down the lugs where the protectors are. Or you can let the track wear itself it but I myself wouldnt do that. If you dont plan on running studs ever Id at least remove the fronts protectors.
Thank you very much! This place is very informative.
I see that you can buy a "soft", "hard", and "snocross only" track in 1 1/2" lug. I do mostly trail riding, but really enjoy the powder adventure. I was either thinking of the "hard" or "snocross" style as some of my riding is done in not so good conditions and I figure it would be more stout.
What are the real differences?
