which ones can I use?
can I use viper shocks?
if I do, do I have to change the radius arms, or change the rear susp?
I need to replace my shocks, but was considering making it longer travel. it would be nice.

If you have ohlins, then keep those, and if you want longer travel, have them re shafted.
I am sure there are ways of making it LT, but I am not that versed in it.
if you don't have ohlins, then by all means get shocks off of a long travel proaction sled.

I put a set of viper shocks on the front of my 98 last year. You need to take the bracket off of the bulk head, and get a set of viper bushings and press them into the hole in the bulkhead, and then they will bolt right in. You will have to widen the front end with a set of sxr radious rods, and tie rods. I believe that if you go long travel in the front, you will also have to long travel the rear. Bethviper on this sight is very good with this stuff and helped me allot. He is great! You can send the shocks to pioneer performance, and they can long travel them for the rear, and I believe that you have to change the limiter straps, and transfer rods. I picked up a whole viper rear skid on ty classifieds, and put that in my sled. It is a great improvement, I have no regrets.

I guess that's kind of what I was thinking of doing.
right now it has KYB's that have no shock left in the front end. the rear I'm not sure of, I think those might be alright.
the only drawback, is I am on a verry limited budget.
I keep bidding on shocks on ebay, but they keep going up so high, and how do you know that they are any good?

You should just buy a set of 4 02 Viper take offs, they're always on there for 2-250 a set of 4.
I long travelled my 97sx.It cost me $250 for Viper shocks (all four w/springs) on ebay and $80 at the dealer for the front bushings,Viper limiter straps and transfer rod bushings. Did not put the LT radius rods, tie rods or sway bar in.Raised the sled about 1 inch I think. Vast improvement in the handling.
Great upgrade for its $$$ IMO

Be careful with the 02 viper shocks, they had valving issues, but pioneer can revalve them, and it is pretty reasonable cost if you find a set for the right price don't be afraid of them. I am also on a limited budget, or I wouldn't be riding a 98 sled. LOL It is definitely a worth while investment. They are definitely always on e-bay, I have had better luck finding parts on here for reasonable $$$, e-bay prices tend to get out of control. Bethviper advised me to widen the front end to make it work right, it keeps the geometry right, and also improves handling.

took my shocks off this weekend, is there a way to tell if they need to be just recharged, or if they need to be rebuilt?
what would the pressure need to be? I just have the standard KYB's
