My 01 VMaxER fuel gauge is acting up. Reads full almost all the time. Right now with half a tank in it the gauge indicates between 3/4 and full. I have owned the sled since new. It is parked inside 99% of the time. Stored in my enclosed trailer over the summer. Can't think of anything that may have caused the issue. Holding the float all the way down to the bottom of the tank will drop it down to around 1/4 tank. Any ideas?

Daman, its a 2001 SXR. Also maybe you can help me with another Q? I cleaned my carbs last night ( first time for me ). I put on reed spacers so I figured I would give them a cleaning since I had them off. I followed the carb cleaning section in the tech pages step by step but theres no info on getting the needle out to clean or check clip position.
I'm told and have read on here most guys move clip up 1/2 but I can't see where the needle comes out I pulled the top cover off the carb but can't even see the needle from there. Am I looking in the right place?

Thanks in advance

it's a little tricky if you never done it before but to be able to get your
needle out you need to remove #10,it's held in by a screw #9, you may
need to remove screw #65 to move arm #5 over,or let it rest back down
after #6 is removed, then you can open up the slide and see things a little better, and to get to #9,#10.

little tricky but once you get in there and see how things
work you'll get it..

Well I got my handy dandy ohms meter out and checked my sender. Checks out within spec. So no joy. I checked all the connectors and the wire harness for rub spots. Everything has looked good so far. Sled is sitting in a heated garage while I troubleshoot it so weather/moisture shouldn't be the issue. Worked fine when it was parked last year. Getting a tad low on ideas. Any other ideas?

There aren't a lot of checks in the book for the fuel gauge. The troubleshooting flow chart is for a non working gauge. The checks it has you perform are to ensure you have power. Well mine works, it just isn't accurate. Well not even close to accurate. It is also a new failure. It worked and was accurate before... One of the checks is to ohms check the sender. Gives resistance values. So I am confident the sender is good. Now I am thinking more toward the gauge.

Depending on how bad it pisses me off I may just hand the wife a lighter and tell her to use the flame to see down inside the tank to judge level. :)

well i would try a new sender or gauge, my self i'm leaning toward the sender, they can ohm out good and still be bad/off, i've seen it...

wouldn't take much to swap out the gauge in the dash and see..

your batt. is good right?? not weak low?
