I have a 2000 SXR600 with stock gearing. 20/39. I am going to have the chain case off and wondered if I should change the top gear to a 19 or 21? Any suggestions.

I have SLP Triple pipes, heel clickers, HX-Roller secondary, M-10, Reed spacers, Tempa flow, I have not done the thin head gasket. I am thinking of gearing down to 19 to increase low end. The only problem is getting the track to stick. I am spinning as it is. I need a new track with some good lugs.

sound's like you need a good track/transfer to start with..

Yep, the M-10 gives up the transfer, but is wayyyyyyyyy better than the no action skid.

I put a 19 in my '02 600 for racing. Still have it in. Side by side against a sled with exact set-up (team members sled) but still with the stock gear. Difference was minimal. With that much of a set-up I would keep stock gear.

One tooth may help, if you're spinning too much now, gearing it down will only make it worse. Normally with the pipes you would go down one because of the extra rpm's. However, this sled is geared short enough stock, I have one, and in testing found out it runs out of gear stock, so you may be fine with the stock gears. On the stock unit it ran out at 99.5mph, I geared it up and it ran 101.8 in the same distance. So I would leave the gear alone for now, and work on getting some better traction. You may try lowering the engagement a little, giving it a little more belt deflection, what's it at now.

I am at 4900 engagement on the bottom and 9000 toped out. This is SLP pipe requirements to get the most HP. I am up on the pipe at 5000 and she rips!!!! I think I may try a 19 tooth just for shits and giggles.

Buy spare set of coupler blocks and experiment with shaving them down for more transfer. I think I shaved about 1/8 to 3/16" off mine. Made a big difference in transfer but did not hurt ride quality much.

change the gear to a 19, i lost no top end and the corner to corner is better. sled felt much better too, just seemed to like the gear better.
