I tested my stator but the meter fluctuates for the test where you are testing the white wire to one of the other two white wires. When I have it connected to two of them it is in range, but when I take the probe off and put it on the other white wire that you're supposed to hook it to the meter will go above the range, then below, then it'll be right for a second but it keeps going up and down constantly. Has anyone ever had one test like this. The test lead was not moving on the connector making it fluctuate either, and I also have a Fluke meter so I know it is very accurate. I just want to know if anyone else has had one do this? I am just gonna get a new one but I figured it would either low or high? What is it that you're actually testing when you are connecting to those white wires anyway?

you are testing resistance in the stator. I have no idea why it would fluctuate. Maybe I am wrong here but isnt the stator like a Brown/Brown red test??? I thought those were the colors but I could be wrong, it's been a year....

One of the connectors has 3 white wires. The one tested good then when I hooked it to the other white wire it wouldn't stay constant. Could the winding be broken or something? I'm gonna take it out later today and look at it.

Does the stator have 3 bolts in it or 2? Someone posted that you need to use a steering wheel puller on it but the steering wheel puller I have isn't for 3 holes it's for 2 straight across from each other. So do I need a 3 pronged puller or a 2 pronged steering wheel puller? Thanks.

Flywheel type puller

Which one do I need? I'm guessing the flywheel puller?

you need the puller to get the flywheel off. 2000 to 2001... must be a difference in the wiring and stator for the dual headlight? the test is different for prior years... anyways be careful not to strip the philips screws on the stator. How many miles you got?

Oops that's what I meant was for the magneto (needing the puller I mean). It has 6000 miles or so on it. I'm not sure what the deal is with it, I tested it again with it off and it didn't drop below the range they give but it did got slightly above then right back into the range they give so I put it all back together. There's nothing really wrong with the sled anyway I just wanted to check it out because my grips seem to get super hot sometimes but usually they're just warm and not hot. I thought maybe this electrical system was getting weak or something but my lights are super bright so I'm gonna check the connectors and stuff but I think they're fine. Maybe I'll just wire the grips in parallel.
