I have a 02 srx and was just wondering if any one here drains there gas tanks
while trailering there sleds. I am aware there aren't any fuel shutoffs on a yamaha . Need your input . THANKS NIGHTTRAIN9

Trailering

Sometimes With All The Bouncing The Floats In The Carbs Can Bounce And Flood The Motor. I Have Heard Of Guys Doing This And Then Not Being Able To Start Their Sleds When They Got To Their Ride Spot Only To Find The Crankcase Filled With Fuel. I Have Not Had It Happen To Me, But I Never Tow With A Full Tank. Later Fuel Injected Sleds Not Included.

I always "tried" to keep less than a half a tank before trailering, but I have on occasion broken that rule without issue. I have heard other story's of flooding though, I would rather be safe than sorry and siphon about half out.

I know Yamaha officially does not recomend it because of the potential for drain down issue

I have never heard of this, we always have one in the back of the truck up on the tailgate. Pukes out the vent a little, but never flood the motor. but with that said i think i might put shutoffs in all the sleds. The last thing i want to do when it is -30c is piss around trying to get them to run.

there is no fuel shutoff ?

All the polaris, cats and doos I have seen have had them. I turn them to off almost all the time, but the rare occasions that I have forgotten, I have had no issues starting the sleds even after a 200 mile trailer ride.

I have always towed with gas in the tank, often with it full. Have never had a problem starting it or had it spilling out or anything.

Nope, "most" late model Yammi's depend on vacuum (or lack of) to eliminate drain down. 90% of the time you will not have issue, as I said I have never had one BUT I have heard from a few people that have.

I have trailered my Yamaha sleds thousands of miles since 1978
Never had 1 fuel related issue from hauling . Where we trailer to there are no refueling stops. They are always full on the trailer

We trailer them with full tanks quite a bit. It works fine for us. I've heard you shouldn't like everyone else says. Then again I've personally never heard of anything bad about it. To each one his own choice.

Last time i trailerd mine a 100 miles i had no problems either, they lit
right up when started, NO fuel shut off..

my trailer ride's nice, not much bouncing at all...

:letitsnow Well I guess I should just siphon both sleds like you say "be on the safe side" 7 hour trailering and get there and have problems is not worth that. Its just when you leave you have to try to get an empty tank on your last ride. Oh well when I get back I am going to look into fuel shutoffs for my sleds .THANKS FOR THE HELP! NIGHTTRAIN9
