All,
I am thinking about re-ringing and re-sealing my 700SX. It has 11k miles on it and it runs great, however I have watched three of my buddies (various makes, including YAMAHA) engines blow all seeming to be caused by ring failure. Two of which also wiped out the crank! I am a firm believer of "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" But it seams to me that given my mileage it wouldn't be a bad idea to take some precautionary measures.
Anybody have any thoughts???

ummm... if it aint broke don't fix it doesn't apply to internal wear parts. You will definetly need new rings, at that mileage, and you should check the piston diameter 10mm up from the bottom of the skirt with a micrometer, if it's under spec, all three pistons need replaced aswell.
As long as you don't damage any gaskets during removal, you can re-use the base gasket and head gasket with use of some high tack gasket spray, If any of the black coating is flaked off or missing from the gasket, it is best to replace it.
New crank seals are a good idea at that mileage also. I always put a small amount of grease on the inside of the crank seal and on the outside to help seal around any imperfections.

^^change said it all....
when your oil change is due on your car do you keep running it just because the engine still run's good???? no you change it out...
same goes for ring's, rings are the heart of any 2-stroke engine.
and your wayyyyyy over due!!!!!

Thanks for the advise...
Thanks for the advise!
It's just I've heard guys getting 20k miles without a re-build on the 700.
I think I will take your advise and tear her down after this season.

IMO, Top ends are routine maintenance on a 2 stroke. You can leave them, but if something does go then you are looking at more dollars for repair rather than a few dollars here and there. Cranks for these triples aren't cheap.
