I think the SLP web site is a good start or Tom Hartman http://www.hartmaninc.com/index.php

Absolutely, I'm running exactly what SLP recommends for clutching and jetting. By comparison to other riding buddies with 800's, I can climb anything their sleds will as long as track lengths don't get over about 153". After that, track on the ground makes too much of a difference.
Check out the thread called "attention, slp cannister, bad rub on motor case" on page two of this forum, that's something he should check before putting the pipes & can on.

SLP,s recommendations for clutching, jetting at their web site is very close to perfect. Pretty good HP gains, allows you to play with the 800's without breaking a sweat.

I'm running a straight 43 degree. SLP recommends a 43 when riding over 6000', my main riding area is 6100'. I would like to try a multi-angle, like say around a 47-43, just haven't got around to it yet. Hoping to get a better backshift with it.

I ride at 8,500 to 12,000:
Here is what I'm running. I ride at 8,500 to 11,000 with this set up and get about 8-9 MPG. I'm a hair lean at 8,500 and a hair rich at 10,500. Carb heaters off.
PTO 145, CENTER 147.5, MAG 147.5, Pilots 45, Needles 2.0, Air screws 1 7/8.
Torsion spring silver, Torsion cam 43 degrees, 100 degree twist on secondary.
13.3 steel outer rivet, 13.3 Alum inner, 8DN 10 weights, Green-White-Green spring
I engage at 4,050 rpm and max out at 9,100 out of the hole and settles to 9,000
21 x 40 gearing. I forgot to mention I'm jetted for 20 to 0 degrees air temp. If its colder out I my sled runs a little lean, warmer is richer of course.

thanks guys, what do you think about using either heavy hitter weights or some other aftermarket clutch weights in the Viper? (not heelcklickers)

Stock Yammie are ok, I don't lose many races
have you tried any other sets of yammy weights then stock with the slp pipes?

I haven't. I'm running basically what A K Mnt Viper has:
8dn-10's
13.3mm steel rivet base
can't remember what length tip, longest aluminum rivet, it's only like .6 grams
g-w-g stock primary spring
green stock secondary spring at 70 wrap
Yammie 43 degree helix (stock is a 45)
I originally just had the 13.3mm in the base, but after I added the flow-rites I had to add to the tip.
My sled runs with my friends 800 summit, SLP's set up seems to be pretty good. This is more of a deep pow, hill-climbing set up. My cousin has a '98 Mnt. SRX, he's got a 141" track, anti-ratchets, air mod, carbon fiber reeds. He pulls me drag racing by about 2-3 lengths in 500 feet, but no competition hill climbing. He's getting about 35-37 track speed climbing, I'm getting 48-51. The lower gearing on Viper for stock 120hp really works when you throw triples on it. Unless someone else posts with a good set up, I would start with SLP's set up, your friend could then play with it and see if he can improve it.
