I'm working on a '00 srx and have the top end off now. Looking down into the crankcase I can see 2---1/4" size holes approx for each cylinder. What are these holes for? For directing fuel mixture to the crank bearings? One of the reasons I ask is that 3 of them are fuel with some oily looking mixture and 3 are clean through.

these ports are to lube the crank bearings.

that's what I thought. so, if there is some oily looking mixture in the holes, that's probably a good thing. the holes that don't have anything in them is bad then....huh? I should probably pull the crank out and inspect for security reasons...huh?
ahhh, no you dont need to pull out the crank, there is a couple blind holes that dont go anywhere they are from machining the case/casting, they are not open on the other end. , only a few feed the bearings, nothing wrong with it, the ones that are empty are the ones that go down to the crank bearings.

i think I might pull the crank anyway. this sled had a very rough life. there is a little bit of debris (dirt) down in the crank. I would just feel better if I went over the bottom end while the top end is seeing some fresh components as well.
