So the late model srx's had the DCS system, which I understand monitored the engine for detonation and adjusts timing to prevent damage right? And the 04 and up vipers have it too? I'm curious, why did they stop using it for 02 and 03 vipers only to bring it back? I wouldn't have minded having something like that, I wouldn't have bought the thing from the dealer and bought something else if it had a flashing DCS light (which it would have  darn thing was a ticking time bomb before I even had it) But now that it's fixed...I'm curious why they dropped it for those model years.

02 -03 were built better so they did not need the DCS (just kidding!) I think the DCS only came out on the SRX's in 02 which was something new for Yamaha. The Viper did not have it until 04 as you said. It was never dropped from the Viper. It was just not optioned until 04. I have heard that the DCS has actually been a real pain in the butt for some people, especially on modified machines. I prefer not having it on my 03 as it is one less thing to break. The newer machines are getting sooo advanced with electronics that it isscary to own these things beyond 5 yrs. I fear that they will become more problamatic with all these gadgets do'nt you think?

PS. How did you get your Viper to sit soo high in the rear suspension? I love the look of it. How does it ride at that altitude?

Well I think it would've be nice to have, I plan on keeping my machine stock anyways for reliability's sake (though maybe I'll get into clutching a bit later..one thing at a time lol) so it would've been ok for me. I was just wondering.

I made drop brackets for the rear suspension mounts to drop the skid 2.5"....do a search on drop brackets and you'll find a ton of info on them. I haven't really had a chance to evaluate it yet, but from the little I've driven I really like it.
