I'm trying to set my rear suspention for a softer ride in my 04 viper. It seems no matter what i do, as soon as the transfer rods bottom, the suspention is rock hard and will not move any more. I remove the rods and all is good. I've tried adjusting the shocks, tried a softer spring. Nothing makes a difference. What can i doo to make it softer?

i got fed up of the suspension in mine and ended up putting a skid from a polaris in it last week. now i am looking for bumps just for the fun of it.lol.
maybe theres a setup for the proaction but i didn't find it. dont get me wrong
i liked the way it handled on flat trails but as soon as there was bumps i hated it. the big ones were all right it was the small wash board ones that were killer's.

like flyin yami said, swap the proaction for a edge or pro x skid and you will be one happy camper :)

how much do you weigh and what sled. Maxdlx

Its a 136 04 Viper S. I'm 220 with gear on. I'v installed an Ohlin rear shock hoping it would be better but i'm starting to think it was a waste of money. Pushing down on the rear of my stock 121 04 Viper S its soft all the way down. Pushing down on the 136 its rock solid as soon as the transfer rods hit. I just installed Bender transfer rods too hoping they would help. If i set the rear spring soft the rear will sag with no waight on the sled and its way to soft, like there's nothing there till it hits the transfer rods. Even then its rock hard when the rods bottom.

You need to work witht he center too. When the rods couple you are using that spring too. Get the rear of the sled off of the ground completely. Loosen the center shock spring until you have 0 preload on it, and then turn it 3 to 4 turns. Depending on what spring is in the rear, start with the fra in the middle posistion. let the rear of the sled back down on the ground. Now sit on the sled, and with the transfer nuts in the stock position, loosen or tighten the rear spring until you get 50/50 gap on the transfer rods. If it is a clicker shock, get it more towards tthe low end of the settings before making this adjustment. If none of this works, you have a bind in the suspension somewhere. You can find this by removing the shocks and cycle the suspension to find just where it is binding. You should set your front end sag at 30 to 40 % before you do any of this, and if you want to change your limiter strap settings, do that before anything else. Maxdlx

I think i have it figured out, and it rides good without bottoming out. Now i need to get some traction. I got beat by 2 F-7's and a stock Viper yesterday. The ZR 800 i raced was close till the top end, maybe 1000 feet then it went right by. The sled spins then grabs then spins etc. On hard pack it doesn't spin mutch, but i still get the lurching. I have the transfer rods at max but it feels like it needs more. The limiters are out enough that i can spin the center spring by hand with no waight on it. I think i'll look for a used Attak skid. Maybe i just have to mutch power for this skid to work good. The cats just ripped and kept going. I'm sure i have the same power or more. Traction is holding me back.

JustaViper, What was the cause of your skid being rock hard after the transfer rods bottom. I have a 2000 stock SXr doing the same thing taht I can't figure out.

Hmm, thing is the softer the go technically the more transfer your gonna alow when the weight shifts to the back, so cant really understand why you would have less hookup when its set softer, i ran the proaction in mine with bender tc3's to full transfer, and limiters backed right off, it would hook hard on hardpack and the as best as it could on loose the limiting facotr being the lug track, since ive got the edge i had to really work on dialing it in more but id have to say skid swap was awesome addition to the sled, more transfer, better ride, and it hooks up awesome.

How many miles are on it maybe the shock is gone, if you loosen the spring all the way the sled should bottom out, if it doesn't it's the shock

Both shocks on mine were rebulit in February. I will remove the Skid to give everything a good look. Hopefully i will find something. Did not mean to hack a thread, Just hoping JustaViper will reply as he solved his problem.
