Hey guys,

Can I pre-mix my srx this weekend. Dont ask why, But I think my oil pump might be gone, And the sleds are already up there. So I have no way of riding another sled. So If the oil pump is gone (Not to sure if its gone or just if the cable was out of the socket). But can I premix the oil? I have amsoil, and it says 50:1. I am so lost on how much oil to put in the full tank? But If I premix can I leave the oil resevour empty without anything going wrong with the oil pump?

Nik!

Also how could one change an oil pump? Also how much, and what adjustments should be made? How can I tell if the pump is shot other than major oil consumption? The cable might have been out of its seated position. But I haven't had time to ride it since I took the carbs and put the cable in the seated position just to be sure.

yes you can pre mix, 50:1 should be a safe ratio if pump's not working, but
if your going to do this still put oil in the oil tank to see if it's going down.

50:1 would be for 12 gal's of fuel you would need 31oz's of oil...

Like i said put oil in your oil tank and mark it,then as your running your
sled you can see if it's going down thus pump would be working...

Also how mnay gal's in a 98 SRX?

I Just filled the tank, It had some in it But I put 40.06 bucks, and the premiem was 109.5 a litre. So about 36-37 litres.

Dunno never did that, probably would ruin the pump running it dry....

what was your original problem why you think the pump isn't working, what
happend?

12 U.S Gals in a SRX.

I removed my oil pump on my old improve stock srx race sled and ran premix.
If your pump is junk contact me I have a spare one.

Well I rode 32KM, And I used about 1/2 tank of oil. Oil coming out of the exhaust. I Did have the oil cable run through a few lines and that MIGHT have held the cable out of the seat! So that might have been my problem. But I re-routed the line and now there is nothing holding it out of the seat. I am not to sure if It was out of the seated spot, But it is very possible it was. So from there I had the thought, that the pump might have been shot. It does return to the idle position, But I checked after I re-routed the cable.

I am just worried!

Yeah but I have the sleds already on the trailer and heading out already. I am leaving tomorrow afternoon. So if you had a pump and mine was done it wouldn't help me for this 3-4 day trip. I have 2 gallons of oil ready to go (JUST INCASE THE PUMP IS SHOT) This is my last trip probably this year. So If the pump is gone, I will be replacing it after this trip. But I have never had a problem like this before. Oil has always been in the tank. And I rode it 32 KM this year, and like 30 last year! Last year everything was good! So I just dont think the pump can go, especially counting the KM I rode it!

you'll be alright, run your pre-mix and keep an eye on your oil level, i think
your pump is ok,must have been pulled up from it's seat like you said.

yamaha oil pumps are very reliable..

Ok, I am going to bring the oil as we're probably doing a 1000-1500KM round trip. So I will try and use the injection, But if its sucking it back (Shouldn't now) I will start to premix.

Thanks man!

No premix, Oil level did go down, But in a normal way! Everything was good until I broke the ski, and then bent the Shyt out of the left trailing arm, lol!

Shyt happens, we were riding pretty hard! Especially for the crappy trail conditions. But I had fun, and the trailing arms were coming off anyways!

Just a word of caution, if you pre-mix and your pump is still working you will have too much oil in the mixture. At the very least you will foul plugs. Worse is that you will actually be leaning out the air/fuel mixture. I don't know if it will be lean enough to burn it down though.
