I've read all the post about chain tension, but none address the machine with reverse. There is an extra gear 1/2 way down the long side, so I don't thing you can have 3/4" to 1" of play.
I'm guessing as loose as possible without letting it touch the wear pad. How much sideways force should I be applying to test if it will touch or not? Say a medium pinch (hard enough to hurt a little but not cause a bruise) or really hard (see how far it will go)???

about a 1/2" total, thats a 1/4" each way, left and right.

So just enought to stop it from hitting the wear pad I'm guessing.

just run the bolt in finger tight and lock it down. Good to go. Maxdlx
