So I read the reed notch page... they say to do the mod to the TOP stop. Then in a post, someone asks "which one" and the reply is BOTTOM. Which is it? And why, just to understand.
Also, moving the washers on the needle to attain 2.5, you simply slide one off the end and put it over the other end, correct? Man, that #10 part was a bugger.
Do you locktight the reed stopper screws?
Seems some gaskets need sealant, some don't... how to tell?
Reed block gasket? Top of carb plate? Exhaust?
Great info here... helped me a TON to do the carbs. Couldn't see through any of my pilots!

1.) top reed stop only, because it blocks the rear boost port on the engine/cylinder. wont hurt to us blue loctite on screws!
2.) for the needles, simply remove the plastic shim from under the clip and place BOTH of the plastic shims on top of the clip, clip remains in the 3rd groove on needle
3.)good idea to at least spray the gaskets with a hy tack gasket spray, let dry and then install

1- ok, thats what I thought. Would changing the reed mt screws to SHCS be bad? They're so fragile... easy to strip.
2- Hmm, thought only one per the tech section for 2.5?? damn, gotta redo it then.
3- where do you find the spray? I only found tubes at Murrays. Thanks!

Also, when you want to do a plug/piston check... how long/far do you have to hold the throttle before hitting the kill switch? A mph equivalent... like 50mph for 1000 ft for needles/mid, and WOT/80-90mph for mains? Thanks.

Dennis, you can find Permatex spray tack @ Murrays and pep boys (I think) not sure about auto zone, There is two kinds to the best of my knowledge, there's the regular gasket tack(blue can with white writing) and then there's copper spray tack in a golden colored can.yamahauler4 said:1- ok, thats what I thought. Each spacer shim is approx 1/3 of the distance to the next clip notch. hope this helps. T

For the plug chop ride her in the mid range for about 1/4 mile then hit the switch and check if ok then go to the wot run. remember it doesn't hurt to be extra cautious. Man, just went to Murrays... 9 tubes of gasket sealant... ALL say "do not use on head gaskets or near gasoline". WTF?Sxr700Bandit said:Dennis, you can find Permatex spray tack @ Murrays and pep boys (I think) not sure about auto zone, There is two kinds to the best of my knowledge, there's the regular gasket tack(blue can with white writing) and then there's copper spray tack in a golden colored can.

One spray, permatex copper, about $8 can. Says to spray both sides of gasket, and both flanges. Twice. I don't want to shoot that stuff anywhere near my intake... is just both sides of gasket okay?
I know Im overthinking this, but I also know it's in the little details that people have problems. I just want this thing back together at this point... I have a big ride this weekend and don't want a meltdown. Thanks.

You just coat the gaskets themselves. That's all I did when I put in my reed spacers and they've never leaked.
