Sled is a 94 V-max 600. I have had nothing but problems with the stock clutch so I finally got a new Comet clutch. I pulled the old stock clutch off no problem. Then I went to put on the new Comet but first tried to screw the new bolt into the crank. I can get about 2 threads then it starts to spin the crank. I pulled the bolt out and set it with the old one and the threads look to be the same? I then calipered the diameter and it is only about .004 bigger than the original bolt. I do not want to force this new bolt in and mess up the crank threads it seems like I should be able to screw the bolt in with little effort? Not sure what to do here? What size is the thread on the end of the crank? I looked inside the the hole and the threads look to be ok and not mangled up? I would not think you would have to put the clutch on the taper and force the screw on to hold it? Anyone have any ideas or the size of the thread in the end of the crank? Thanks

Did you try meshing the threads on both bolts? That's how you see if the threads are the same. If they're the same the threads on both will go all the way down into each other.

Yup I put the threads form one bolt into the other and they seem to be the same

The bolt that came with my EXP fit my 95 Max just fine. After the shop bent 4 pullers, they had to cut off my old clutch! I had a heck of a time re-tapping the threads! There was another size bolt they tried that looked the same but was the wrong size. Maybe take a run to the hardware store with the original bolt and get the right size nut to try so you don't mess up the crank threads. My guess would be that it's the wrong bolt.

Thanks FishX I got the clutch from the guy you told me about. Great guy to deal with and a good price on the clutch. I am going to go to the hardware store and check out some nuts and see if they are the same. Thanks

Any one know what size the thread is in the end of the crank??? I went to the hardware store and no luck 12mm is too small and 14 is too big in all the fine thread both pitches? Anyone

Just in case you want to know the thread is a 1/2"-20 fine thread and not metric. Yamaha is metric but the crank is not huh new to me but it works now. Just took and ran a tap into the end of the crank and cleaned out the threads

Sounds like you got her figured out! What color spring did you go with and what's the engagement RPM your getting? The silver spring on my 500 is engaging a little to early(3200 rpm). I'm gonna pick up a stiffer spring to get me around 4000.

Yup I think I have it figured out. I got the clutch on but have not had a chance to try it out. I got a silver red spring I believe. The sled is all stock and its my wifes so if it engages early it is fine. She is by no means a speed demon. lol
Sounds like a new snow storm is about to roll through here and I may have a chance to try it out. Thanks Steve n8sjh
