Finally got on a lake and held my 2001 SXR to the pin for about a mile and all I got out of it was 95 mph. It is stock with reed spacers and some kind of clutch kit.
Does 95 sound right? I know 21 years ago I used to get that with my 87 exciter.

How did you determine the speed? Speedometer or GPS?

Thanks for responding daman, It was just speedo, 95mph @ 8200rph not sure what rpm out of the hole but I did beat my bro's out of the crate 06 f7 out of the hole I have 1 1/4 ripsaw he has 1" hacksaw. That may be why I got him out of the hole cause he really ripped by me. As far as the clutch goes no Idea, I just know its a hauk kit.
What did these (SXR 700) sleds do for top end (speedo) out of the crate?

Looks like your under rev'en some you want 8500 on top,
try a search on sxr rpm, lots of good set up's here...
running stock gear?

yep thats about it for a stock sxr, rpm from factory settings supposed to be 8300. but you can make that sled alot faster with some clutch work and a few mods. also remember when you put a bigger track on it , you will slow it down!

If you want more top speed, Id ditch the 1.25" lug track and get a .91" or a 1". When I had a 1.25" Ripsaw on my sled, I lost 5 mph on the topend.

98-101 is pretty much the norm in 2000' on ice on radar. add some snow & your speed comes down. doesn't sound like your far off.

Your speed does not sound that far off, and yes, as someone already mentioned, these sleds perform best on top end with a well packed base, a little bit of snow drags them down.

I will get 100mph on the dreammeter with my 2001 sxr 700. I have set my clutches up as per TURK's suggestions. My buddy's F6 will pull away from me, his topend is about 105mph I believe. I do get better gas mileage and I have never been towed home.

This is how my sled is set up as per TURK. Do a search on this forum "Reliable mods sxr 700"
"Here is exactly what to do on that sled.
142.5 main jets right across
lower needles 1/2(move 1 plastic shim from bottom of clip to the top)
reed spacers
change inner rivet froma 3.6 gram to a 4.5 gram
get a rx-1 helix & run it at 60 degree wrap
I am very close to you(Brandon)
& have set up a lot of those sleds including a few of my own."
I also run a 1 1/4 ripsaw track.

maybe ours is fast but my wife consistantly sees 115 on the dream-o-meter....stock. Now this year I did the head gasket mod and spacers so we will see if we ever get a chance to ride.
