long travel srx

need to know

what year srx. Or check the part # with sxr rods to see if they are the same. Yopu do need limiter straps. Maxdlx

Are the Bender Control rods made for the 2000 year SRX? If so, you should be allright. None of the aftermarket long travel kits change the rods themselves only the spacers. I'm not even sure if you need new limiter straps. I think the 2000 and up SRX's came with longer straps.
What version of Viper shocks are you using? The original 2002's or updated ones?

You dont need to chnage the limiter straps on the 00-02 srx. They are the same as long travel sleds. What kind of Bender rods are they? The ts3s?If you want to use all the travel those shocks offer then you probuly would have to go with a long travel transfer rod or the maxx perf rods made for the 00-02 srx.

yes they are the ts3 transfer rods
i measured my rear bumper height with the bolts out of my transfer rods and then measured bumper height once i put the bolts in and tightened them,it sucked the back end down 3"
should i be losing that much travel or is this telling me that i need longer transfer rods??

the bender rods will not work on the long travel srx. see maxximum performances web site. they will limit the travel and drop out of the suspension. you would be fine with a set of stock transfer rods and thinner shims on the bottom (2.5mm) or if you sell your bender rods, you can upgrade to the longer maxximum perf 00-02 srx rods which are 7.5 mm longer than the stock rods, to allow more transfer and travel. this came right from bruce at pioneer who pardon the pun pioneered the long travel proaction skids for the srx and sx's. i just talked to him today. i may make a 7.5 mm extension and use my stock rods or i may just bite the bullet and buy the maxx rods. we are all on a learning curve with this project so we can all learn from one another. ski

thanx for all your guys help
i wonder what would happen if i got a longer bolt for my bender rods and put in a spacer the same diameter as the control rod,it would give me more transfer rod and would not suck down my suspension as much??
does anyone know where the stock rods on a long travel are longer compared to the short travel rods??is it the top half??if so how long are stock long travel rods from the shaft to the washer that is welded on there ??and how far from the washer to the end of the rod??

skidooboy the maxx rods are about 10mm longer than the stock rods.I measured mine with a dial caliper before and they were .250" longer.

scootersrx7 to do what you want to do just add a .250" spacer to the bottom of the rods you have on there now.Dont know if it would work or not but it might. The maxx rods are longer on the bottom.

if your sled is a 2000 i believe your sled has an extra set of holes for the older rods. vipers use this location. viper and pre2000 use the same length rods. (from memory only so check) be careful holding sled up with out rods bolted on the bottom as you can damage the shock threads on the shock.

If you increase the length at the bottom of the rod this would increase the lower gap, thus decreasing the front to rear Coupling. Gap on the top is, rear to front coupling. Gap on bottom is front to rear coupling. The gap on the bottom is almost more important because front to rear coupling is encountered more and directly relates to the riding characteristics of the proaction skid. I think the thoery here is that the skid comes to heavily coupled and by increasing the lower gap it uncouples the action. If you mess with the shock lengths, its a good rule of thumb to stay near the stock gap settings, which might require you in increase the lower end of the rod because you have removed all spacers and you are still not getting the proper lower gap.

what i did is use the longer rods from a mmax(,only the top half is longer),and used the rear transfer rod mounting holes on my rails.
this seemed to fix things up but i will now more once i get it out on the trails
my 2000 srx had the shorter transfer rods on the top half(262mm)
the mmax rods and viper rods are 300 mm

I HAD MAXX'S LONG TRAVEL KIT, IT STILL WAS PRETTY ROUGH ON THE SRX, SO I ENDED UP WITH A M-10 WITH OHLINS CLICKERS AND OHLINS LONG TRAVEL IN THE FRONT AND WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY. IT'S LIKE A CADILLAC EVEN IN BIG WASHBOARD TRAILS
