Anyone ever break a jackshaft? I have never seen it before. I am begining to wonder if something else caused it. I want to cover all my bases before I tear into it. Buddy was riding it, jumped on the throttle nothing there? Opened the hood to find the belt in the belly and the secondary just lying there. I just about sh** my self. Anyone else see this?

This is a viper-s and has about 3000 miles it does have an expert x I wonder if for some reason this had something to do with it?

yuppers....exact same thing on my srx.....went off trail into deep snow and bang sparks and everything lol....never did find out why it broke....fatigue im guessin...broke right under the bearing race....bearing was still good

Broke mine too!

I had my jackshaft bearing go bad and as a result the shaft broke. Cost me around $240 for a new one, which included the bearing :-). I had 6000 miles on mine when it went bad, so I wouldn't blame the expert x (since it would have been your drive shaft that would have went) Change all the drive bearings along with the jack shaft ones and you will be good to go again. I bet age and corrision killed your bearing.

ya i got over 7000 kms on my bearings....so id just say wear on them failing....ya do all the bearings at the same time and your good to go....

new bearings and and shaft good to go! Beaings were good replaced ayway. Shaft broke in the center. Hollow junk shaft! I now weight is important but durability is more important. I put a stock shaft back in hope it last's! As I said before it has an expert x I wonder if the extra traction stress's it?

The bearing wears out, and then heats the shaft up which can make it brittle. Effectively under the right situation it heat treats the shaft. I have a broken shaft and a bent one from this very heat process. It is incredible the amount of heat it can generate. Nothing wrong with the design, just a maintenance issue.

Change that bearing as soon as it needs it and you likely will not have this problem. You can find a used shaft usually for a lot less. Just be sure that the used one isn't heat treated as well . . .

good point. I do check my chain and bearings quite frequently. I have alot of experience with bearings in my job. The bearings seem to be very good. no signs of heat. I have the bearings and the shaft I may cut the bearing apart to have a good peak. I am not really complaining the bearing lasted 3500 miles. I was just worried about breaking another. Your suggestion of the srx mounts and tensioner are a great idea I am on that! thanks! This viper is now a back up to my Nytro but I still love the viper. Maybe more than the Nytro!
