I have 96 .875 studs and backer plates up the middle only. I took a look at the track and am missing about 10 studs. Should I replace the studs in the same holes or drill new ones? Or just run it the way it is.

just run it as is. I would def not re use the old holes from a pullout. You will need a new track at some point anyways. I suggest next year, as a summer job to replace the track.

what kind of studs do you have? t nut or push through? if theya re t nut, you might be able to re use the hole. but you really won't notice 10 studs misssing.

now on our t nut studded indy trail, it has 48 studs (had) and maybe 20 are left, a nd you DO notice that. IME, t nut studs fall out really easily compared to Push throughs, and the few push throughs that have pulled out, left enough track damage to warrant a track replacement at some point. Usually after or before the next season.

If they are not torn out and the stud just broke off, you can re-use those holes just fine. I would just leave anything that is a tear out and not drill a new hole next to it. On a 97 you may want to start thinking about a new track. Those older Yamaha tracks are not the greatest. A front ripped heat exchanger is much more of a PITA than changing a track.

It is very important to have enough studs in the track extra if the rider is on the heavy side as you know when you cross a road you need enough to hold up the sled and rider,to few studs will distort, bend and break or pull through

10 missing out of 96 is not that extreme though.

now 20 of 48 like on my trail is extreme.

And I am 6'4" and 240lbs, and when the trail does get used, it gets abused badly by me.

I plan on putting a taller better track on that sled at some point, but it barely gets used as it is. Its worth more to keep around just in case we have an extra person, so until I get a new sled, it will remain in the stable.

Thanks everyone. I think I will just leave it. I used push throughs. Some of the pullouts are ripped pretty good.
