Guys, rode around 240 miles on saturday, cranked pretty hard on the old viper, sled ran strong but noticed my overrev is back, pulled around 9400 on full throttle and gas milage around 10mpg! I know I was out of my power range most of the day and I am sure that's why I am burning more fuel! Trails were hard and fast. I need to check my clutches, My belt only has around 500 miles and looks good. I think I will start with a good clutch cleaning and see how that works. I looked at the clutches when I bought it and rollers, buttons and weights all looked good. The secondary doesn't have much tension on it and don't remember where it's set at. Maybe it's not shifting out all the way? I saw speeds of 105 on dream meter all day. Sled seemed to pull harder if I watched rpms and kept them at 86 -8800 rpms but can't ride watching that all day. I am pretty sure I have all stock set up but we check it out tonight.
I have put around 1500 miles this year and will probally clean the exhaust valves since weather will be rain around here and warm for the next week or so. Any input and help is always apprecited, Thanks Blue

The redhead SX's are pretty good for gas. Just last weekend I got about 11-12 mpg.

venture, 10
viper, 13-14
viper with slp, 8-10
viper with srx, 13-15
srx 14-15
if your srx is getting 8, you have alot of problems. i lost two power valves in canada and rode it home, got 8-9 and sled would only go 100
tery, just bring up your clutches and or sled friday, may as well make it a weekly thing. we can go out for a night ride.

Scott, How about a night ride next friday to kick off the TY Ride? Thanks for the parts for the wifes sled, All worked out and back together and running good. I am taking this weekend off from riding and plan on working on my viper getting preped for the TY ride, Hope the weather holds out!!!!!! Bangor Trails are shot! I am sure you are fine up there. Any luck on a cover for her VMAX? I think we are comming up Friday and riding Sat and heading back sat night? not sure yet how the wife will handle getting back on the sled. She thinks she is healed but riding might be harder than she thinks.
Thanks , Terry

Viper update

Guys, Cleaned the power valve's ( really bad), Pulled primary (stock weights) and secondary and cleaned and checked, Changed secondary from 70 degrees to 80 for slower upshift and quicker backshift. Will anything I've done help my overev and or gas milage issue? I need to check my belt adjustment as its riding a little low in the secondary ( even ). Maybe it's not shifting out and thats why RPMs are high? How do you adjust belt to sit correctly in the secondary? I know there is some screws that you would turn out to bring the belt higher? Are they the 3 behind the clutch? Or the ones seen on the outside of the clutch by the windage plate?
Every thing else looks good with the old girl.
Thanks Blue

My 99 SRX was great on gas compared to this viper. I am hopeing the few changes I made will help on gas milage and overrev.

Start tuning....
