My carbides are shot on my Viper, so I am in a dilema on what to do. The current skis I am running are the saddless Yamaha skis, the same as the Viper-S had only in blue. I have 6" Roetin carbides on them. I rode almost 300 miles last weekend. For the most part, the sled steered OK until Sunday when it got a bit warm and the snow was mushy. Then it darted alot more. We rode down alot of fire roads that day that they plowed and the gravel leaching through did a number on my carbides. Anyways, I was thinking of trying Dooly's or better yet go to Slydogs. The Dooly's would run around $110 from my dealer, while the SLydogs are a bit over $300. My Skis are in great shape.....what's the better choice? Are the Slydogs that good? What carbide length is best for a 1.25" Predator and no studs on them? Or would I be happy with just going with the Dooly's?
Any thoughts are appreciated......thanks

I havent personally tried the SlyDogs but have read alot of posts about them. They sound like they improve everything from floatation, cornering, to darting. Try doing a search on them on the Fourstroke forum, thats where I read alot of the posts.
I would be interested in the skis that you have now if you decide to sell them. The money may help you on the purchase of the SlyDogs.
Good luck, Sno-Xr

Thanks, I have read them. I think they look like the ticket for the 4 stroke Yammies. I was hoping to hear some comparisons from people that have used either of the two I mentioned on a Viper. I am trying to justify spending more on the skis or just doing the Dooly's. I have heard good reports on the Dooly's for a remedy on darting. My uncle bought some for his Vector GT and seems to be pleased.

Troy,
I really like the Slydog skis. I had a set of Slydog trail skis on the Viper VX7R and had great results. From my experience I think it's hard to do much better to really improve the handling on those sleds. With your track set up, either 6" Shaper or 6" Bergstrom carbides would work out perfect. If you're looking for a great all-purpose set up for both off trail deep snow and good corner carving, I'm running the Slydog Powder Hounds with 9" Shaper carbides on my 136" SRX. On both of the 4-strokes that my wife and I run, I've also installed the Slydog's with 6" Bergstroms. Properly set up, they take care of the darting, corner great, and give you pretty light steering effort. And you can get them in just about any color combo to match your sled.

I have been running Woody's Dually's on my two Vipers for three seasons now and have been very happy. However I found out that Stud Boy was making a dual runner also they are called the Duece. I went to the Stud Boy website just the other day and they are on sale for $41.24 for the 4.5 carbide length I ordered a pair just to give them a try for comparison to the Woody's Dually's.The darting and handling from the dually's have been good though. I was just on the Slydog sight. Which mount for the Viper, the yamaha std. or the yamaha std./APEX (WPS) ? Is the shaper bar that much better? Is 4.5" of carbide enough for a 1.25 lug track with no studs?
Also who all sells the Studboy Deuce? I think HPE does.

I'm thinking of the Slydog trail for myself...something that is a little wider and lighter than stock would do me good...the keel looks pretty good to...As for Carbides...Thats a personal preferance..I've heard different reviews on the Dual Carbides..most of them not good..a Shaper bar or Berkstrom skegs seem to be choice with my group...just look at the shape of em...it totally makes sense for cornering...the Duals are double the weight aswell...
FOr you..hmmm...I know I'm probably under carbided from my 144 picks...but it sticks pretty good(but the keel on the slydogs would help more)..I don't think it would hurt you to go 6"...but see what others say...as for the Ski mounts...the obvious would be the STD...but I'm hearing the Apex is the version that people are mounting...
Unsure if I" much help...

I would run 6" of carbide. The skis I got were from the 4 stroke side he had them on a apex or something and they bolted right up. the only downside I had is a rock go stuck in one once and I had to get the tool kit out and pry it out with a screw driver. Oh well.
