i just dropped one tooth from stock :22-38(01 srx 23-3
i read that i will loose like 5-10mph top end and that is ok. My question is will my clutching be affcted from this? going to race some guys tonight and dont really have time to go to my test field before.

mrviper700 said:taller gears(lower numericly) load the motor more, so typically youll run less clutch weight because of the load applied, steeper gears remove the load off the engine so it will rev easier now, youll need more clutch weight.
That's what I was told when I asked about it.

im running 22/38 and your clutching and everything will be the same your RPM and whatnot doesnt change the only thing that changes is how fast the sled accelerates and runs outta gear, top out on the 22/38 is around 106mph
Try it out then adjust accordingly i doubt youll have to mess with your weights over 1 tooth

Ive actually had them in since i bought the sled didnt realise till after so i dont have anything comparitively.... it does pull hard tho, once it hooks up itll stretch your arms ahah..... im thinking about going possibly lower im not sure yet, i ride 95% trails and only lakes when im up north so i could drop another 10mph to 95mph or so and still be happy, its that feeling coming off a corner when you GOTTA hang on that i enjoy.

ok so you've never actually tried the stock gearing so you dont really know the diff. it makes sense that it would actually have an effect on the clutches, since its unloading the motor a little less!

well i just went out for a little test ride now. It does make a difference in the clutching, was dead nuts on 8500 before on the zip and hitting 8600 after. the secondary was wrapped at 70. I wrapped it at 60 now not to lower the rpms but to test it there, i wanted to test it there but never had the chance to go out testing alone hehe. and i know from my testing lowering the secondary by 10degrees takes about 100rpms out. Well on the zip im hitting 8600 and after 8700now. I will add a gram back and retest later tonight. glad to see its not overshifting at 60! Sled did feel faster than before! never hit more than 160kmh at my test spot this year and now i hit 180! I'm happy with the results!

Well your gearing runs out at 108 if your overreving to 8700 rpm still..... once you get back down to 8500 your gonna be limited to 105.69 mph region......

yeah but you have less hp at 8700 than 8500 and im more concerned with getting to 180kmh as fast as i can than running faster than that.
I see grasshopper has been learning well.............LOL!!
your 100% right turbor

also from what ive read people have gotten up to 125mph out of the stock gearing so im pretty confident to say that with the proper setup the 22 gear will go 115mph.
Keep in mind your speedo will be off after dropping a tooth.

i posted both speeds ( overreving ) and not over reving, at a 1-1 ratio.... where did i say anything about hp and whatnot haha?

speedo takes it reading from the lower gear, i only changed the top gear, dont think it will have an effect on it.
