what year is 84m?

i'm looking at an another exciter and the vin starts with 84m.i saw somewhere what year that was but i can't find it.any help would be great.also,looking for a single pipe for an 87. thank you

J=1985, K=1986 Not sure if 87 was L but, if it was then M would be 1988 ? Sometimes they skip letters on certain years not, sure why !

i saw it laid out here somewhere and it explained which was which but i'll be damned if i can find it.i found it after i got my 87 and that's how i figured out what year it was(82m).that and looking at pics.mine has the hood w/o side vents,no shadow behind exciter decals etc.but it has roundslide carbs and what appears to be an 89 airbox.

so would an 86m be an 89 and an 82m an 87?

m means manual start,n neans electric start
